Description

The emergency services have completed their work following an earlier incident where a person was hit by a train. This has allowed all lines between Darlington and Newcastle to reopen. Whilst service recovers, trains may still be delayed by up to 45 minutes, revised or cancelled.

Disruption is expected until 21:00.

Your ticket can be used, at no extra cost, on the following services:

  • The two CrossCountry services operating before and after your cancelled service

  • Avanti West Coast between Edinburgh Waverley and Birmingham New Street

  • TransPennine Express services between Edinburgh and Leeds (Changing at Newcastle) / Manchester Piccadilly

  • Northern services between:

    • Carlisle and Newcastle

    • Carlisle / Preston and Leeds

    • Across the East Coast and Yorkshire

  • Tyne & Wear Metro between Sunderland and Newcastle

  • East Midlands Railway services between Manchester Piccadilly and Sheffield

  • LNER services between Edinburgh and Doncaster

Routes:

Between Edinburgh and York / Leeds - Travel using Avanti West Coast or TransPennine Express services between Edinburgh and Preston, changing there for Northern services towards Leeds / York.

Between Edinburgh and Sheffield - Travel using TransPennine Express services between Edinburgh and Manchester Piccadilly, changing there for TransPennine Express or EMR services towards Sheffield.

If you decide to travel from a different station due to this disruption and need to return to that station later, you will also be able to use your existing ticket to do this at no extra cost

Unfortunately, any seat reservations will not be carried over to another train, but Coach B, H and L are our unreserved coaches on CrossCountry services (where available) so please head to them.

You can use your ticket on the following train operating companies, at no extra cost:

  • TransPennine Express between Manchester, Leeds and York / Newcastle

  • CrossCountry between Sheffield, Doncaster / Leeds, York and Newcastle / Edinburgh

  • Greater Anglia between London Liverpool and Peterborough

  • Great Northern and Thameslink between Kings Cross and Stevenage, Peterborough

  • Avanti West Coast between London Euston to Manchester and Glasgow Central / Edinburgh

Rail replacement coaches are in operation between York and Newcastle. Please speak to a member of staff for further information.

Customers with tickets dated for travel today, Sunday 20th July can use their ticket to travel on tomorrow's services, Monday 21st July.

Metrolink Trams are not running between Manchester Victoria and Manchester Piccadilly.

Alternatively, the Bee Network operates a free bus every 10 minutes between Manchester Victoria and Manchester Piccadilly.

Please be aware that the other operators’ services are also likely to be busy.
