Description

A landslip in the Darton area means the line towards Barnsley is blocked. Trains running between Wakefield Kirkgate and Barnsley may be cancelled, revised, delayed by up to 20 minutes or diverted via Moorthorpe.

Additionally, services scheduled to run between Wakefield Westgate and Sheffield via Moorthorpe may be revised or cancelled.

Disruption is expected until 15:00.

What's happened?

Services between Wakefield Kirkgate and Barnsley are currently being disrupted due to a landslip.

Network Rail are on site carrying out their investigations.

How does this affect my journey?

Trains are unable to run from Wakefield Kirkgate to Barnsley in this direction only, but services in both directions may be delayed or revised.

Services on the following routes will be affected by this disruption:

  • Between Leeds and Sheffield via Barnsley - Services towards Sheffield will be diverted via Moorthorpe where possible

  • Between Leeds and Nottingham - Services towards Nottingham will be diverted via Moorthorpe where possible

  • Between Leeds and Lincoln - Services will be amended to run between Sheffield and Lincoln

Alternative travel:

Northern fast services between Leeds and Sheffield via Wakefield Westgate are not directly affected by this incident; however, these services will be suspended in both directions to prevent congestion building up on the line between Leeds and Sheffield via Moorthorpe.

What should I do?

You can travel on the next Northern service to your destination, where available.

Northern train ticket restrictions have been lifted in the affected areas, including Advance and Peak restrictions, during this disruption. Restrictions will be reinstated once the disruption ends.

Road transport:

Road transport will run as follows:

  • 11:10 from Wakefield Westgate to Barnsley, calling at Wakefield Kirkgate and Darton - One full size bus operated by J&B Travel

  • 11:40 from Wakefield Westgate to Barnsley, calling at Wakefield Kirkgate and Darton - One full size bus operated by Ross Travel

Please check station information posters for the location of the bus pick up points and be advised that bicycles, e-bikes and dogs (except for service dogs) are not permitted on replacement road transport.
