Description
There will be lots of planned essential engineering works and upgrades taking place during the Early May Bank Holiday weekend as Network Rail work to improve the railway. Network Rail carry out essential improvement and engineering work across the rail network during this time as fewer people usually travel by train.
In addition, some train companies will be making changes to their timetable, and to some train times, to match services to the number of customers travelling.
If you are travelling during the Early May Bank Holiday weekend, please check your journey before you travel to avoid any disappointments. You may find our Travel Summary useful, it contains lots of useful advice to help you be in the know before you go.
During the Early May Bank Holiday weekend major engineering work will be taking place at the following locations:
Liverpool Lime Street: All day today, and continuing on Monday 4 May, the main lines between Liverpool Lime Street and Liverpool South Parkway, and between Liverpool Lime Street and Huyton, will be affected by major improvement work. New signalling is to be installed around Edge Hill.
York to Darlington: The East Coast Main Line will be closed between York and Northallerton until Monday 4 May inclusive. As a result, your journey is likely to involve using rail replacement transport if travelling between York and Darlington. Work is taking place to rebuild a junction at Tollerton, 10 miles north of York.
London Charing Cross: No trains will run to or from London Charing Cross or London Waterloo East stations until Monday 4 May inclusive. Today, London Cannon Street will also be closed. Southeastern services will be amended to run to other London stations, with most trains diverted to and from London Victoria. Work is taking place to improve signalling around Lewisham, and to complete a track renewal and footbridge installation at Hither Green.
Other significant engineering work at London Euston, at Huddersfield, in the Ely area, and at Bath Spa may impact your Early May bank holiday journey plans.
