Description

All lines are closed between Eastbourne and Polegate whilst the emergency services deal with an incident. To allow them to carry out their work safely, trains between Eastbourne and Lewes may be cancelled, delayed or revised.

Disruption is expected until 18:00.

Customer advice:

If you are travelling between Lewes, Eastbourne, Hastings and Ore, your journey will be delayed. This is due to emergency services dealing with an incident in the Hampden Park area.

The power to the lines will be switched back on shortly and Southern are working to restore services to normal however, disruption is expected to continue for some time. Please continue to check your journey before travelling and allow up to 45 minutes extra to reach your destination.

If your journey is not essential, you may wish to travel later this evening, when services are expected to be less busy.

Service changes:

  • A limited service is running between Brighton and Lewes

  • Most services between Eastbourne and Hastings/Ore are currently cancelled

  • Trains that would normally operate between London Victoria and Eastbourne/Ore may terminate before reaching their destination or be cancelled

  • We expect to operate our normal service between Brighton and Seaford

  • Trains between Hastings and Ashford International are still running

This means there is only a limited train service available between Lewes, Eastbourne, Hastings and Ore.

Ticket Acceptance:

Your ticket may be used at no extra cost on the following;

  • Southeastern between Hastings, London Bridge and London Charing Cross

  • Stagecoach buses on the below routes:

    • 52 between Eastbourne, Polegate

    • 53 between Eastbourne, Polegate, Bexhill

    • 99 between Eastbourne, Pevensey Bay, Collington, Bexhill, St Leonards Warrior Square, Hastings

If you're waiting on a train which is delayed between stations:

If your train is delayed between stations, please remain where you are and listen to announcements, or speak to staff for further information.

Please don't leave the train unless you are asked to do so. Other trains may still be moving in the area, and the track is also a very hazardous environment. In areas where the trains are powered by an electric third rail, this usually stays live and dangerous during incidents, and looks the same as other rails.

Can you tell me more about the incident?

Southern are working with Network Rail and the emergency services to assist a person near the railway. Until it is confirmed that everyone's clear of the track and it's safe for trains to run at their normal speeds, drivers have been stopped on approach to the area.
