Description

There have been lots of planned essential engineering works and upgrades taking place during the Easter weekend as Network Rail works to improve the railway. Network Rail carry out the improvement work across the rail network during this time as fewer people usually travel by train.

The following major engineering works have been completed:

  • London Euston: lines to and from London Euston were closed from Saturday 19 to Monday 21 April. Renewal of overhead lines, switches and crossings (that allow trains to move from one track to another) and drainage work will be taking place to improve reliability.

  • London Victoria: from Friday 18 to Monday 21 April, track renewals, re-signalling, maintenance, and structures work will be taking place at Battersea.

  • Carlisle / Glasgow / Edinburgh: from Saturday 19 to Monday 21 April, track renewals were made to improve reliability in the Carlisle area.

  • Significant work also took place at London Paddington (Friday to Monday) Manchester / Stockport (Saturday to Monday), at Cambridge (Friday to Monday), at Southampton (Friday to Sunday), and in the Leeds / Huddersfield area (Saturday to Monday)
