Description

A safety inspection of the track between Manchester Piccadilly and Sheffield / Chesterfield means that all lines are blocked. Trains running between these stations may be cancelled in full or revised to terminate at a different station on their route.

Trains will also be subject to severe delays once the lines have reopened.

Major disruption is expected until 19:30.

How does this affect my train?

Trains running through the area between Stockport and Chesterfield are not able to run in either direction.

How do I get where I need to be?

To complete your journey you can use your tickets at no extra cost on the following services on the following routes:

Travel between Derby / Chesterfield / Sheffield and Manchester Piccadilly / Liverpool Lime Street

Take East Midlands Railway or Cross Country services between Derby and Leeds, change here for Northern/ TransPennine Express services to Manchester Victoria.

You can then use your tickets on Metrolink to travel between Manchester Victoria, Manchester Piccadilly and Manchester Oxford Road.

You can take Northern services to travel from Manchester Piccadilly to Liverpool Lime Street

You can take London Northwestern Railway services between Liverpool Lime Street and Crewe. Change here for East Midlands Railway services to Derby.

Travel between Liverpool / Manchester Stations to London Stations

You can take Avanti West Coast services from Manchester Piccadilly to London Euston.

You can take Greater Anglia services from Norwich to London Liverpool Street.

You can take Great Northern trains between Peterborough/ Ely to London Kings Cross.

You can take LNER trains between Doncaster and London Kings Cross.

You can take London Northwestern Railway trains between Liverpool Lime Street and Crewe. Change here for Avanti trains to London Euston.

You can continue your journey on the London Underground at no additional cost.

All of these arrangements are available in both directions.

What's happened?

Services between Grindleford and Sheffield are being disrupted due to a safety inspection of the track.

How does this affect my journey?

Train services are unable to run between Grindleford and Sheffield (in both directions).

Services between Manchester Piccadilly and Sheffield will be affected by this disruption.

What should I do?

You can travel on the next Northern service to your destination, where available.

You can also travel on the following at no extra cost:

• East Midlands Railway via any reasonable route

• Metrolink services around Manchester city centre

• TransPennine Express via any reasonable route

Please note that other train operators may also be affected by disruption – please check your whole journey before travelling.

Northern train ticket restrictions have been lifted in the affected areas, including Advance and Peak restrictions, during this disruption. Restrictions will be reinstated once the disruption ends.

Road Transport

To assist customers to complete their journey, road replacement transport will be provided as follows.

A coach operated by Bestway will depart Chinley at 15:45 calling at stations to Sheffield.

Please check station information posters for the location of the bus pick up points and be advised that bicycles, e-bikes and dogs (excluding service dogs) are not permitted on replacement road transport. Journey times will be extended by up to 60 minutes when using road replacement transport.

TransPennine Express customer advice:

You can use your tickets at no extra cost on the following services:

• East Midlands Railway services via any reasonable route

• Northern services via any reasonable route

• Metrolink services between Manchester Victoria and Manchester Piccadilly

Passengers can travel to Huddersfield or Leeds, and transfer on to any TransPennine Express or Northern service to Manchester Victoria or Manchester Piccadilly.

To help you complete your journey, rail replacement transport has been requested to run between Manchester Piccadilly and Sheffield. We will keep you updated when this is confirmed.
