Trains between St Albans City and Sutton (London)

Description

A tree blocking the railway at Haydons Road means the line towards Sutton via Wimbledon is blocked. As a result, trains may be delayed by up to 30 minutes or diverted via Mitcham Junction.

Disruption is expected until 16:00.

Customer advice:

Thameslink services on the route between St Albans City and Sutton are being disrupted by a tree on the line at Haydons Road.

Trains which usually run from St Albans City towards Sutton via Wimbledon will be diverted.

These trains will run via Mitcham Junction instead, and will not call at the usual stations after leaving Streatham.

On return from Sutton towards St Albans, these trains will then run via Wimbledon. Trains running in this direction may be delayed as well, and may have a few further alterations, in order to allow works to remove the tree.

This means you may need to use a diverted train, change trains or travel on another route to reach your destination.

We recommend you leave around 30 minutes of extra time if your journey is affected. Please check our journey planning tools below.

To help you with your journey, your ticket will be accepted at no extra cost on:

  • Southern services on any reasonable route, including trains via Sutton

  • London Underground services on any reasonable route across London

  • London Buses between Sutton, Wimbledon and Central London

  • London Trams between Wimbledon, Mitcham Junction, West Croydon and East Croydon

  • South Western Railway services between Wimbledon and London Waterloo

  • Southeastern services between London Victoria and Herne Hill

Can you tell me more about the incident?

Network Rail are working to deal with a tree blocking the line through Haydons Road towards Wimbledon and Sutton. Until this incident is resolved, trains will have to divert via Mitcham Junction if they were due to use the affected line.

Due to the size of the tree, there may be brief closures of the other line through Haydons Road, towards Streatham, Central London and St Albans. This will allow staff to work safely on site, but may cause some further delays and service changes.
