Description

A points failure in the Heald Green area means some lines are blocked. Trains running between Manchester Piccadilly and Manchester Airport may be cancelled, delayed by up to 30 minutes or revised.

Some lines have now reopened but only a limited service is able to run.

Major disruption is expected until 15:00.

How does this affect my journey?

Fewer trains are able to run between Manchester Piccadilly and Manchester Airport in both directions.

Services on the following routes will be terminated / start back from Manchester Oxford Road or Manchester Piccadilly:

• Between Windermere and Manchester Airport

• Between Barrow-In-Furness and Manchester Airport

Services on the following route will NOT call at Manchester Airport in this direction only.

• Between Manchester Piccadilly and Crewe via Styal

Northern services on the following routes are not affected, but may experience short notice delays and cancellations:

• Blackpool North and Manchester Airport

• Liverpool Lime Street and Manchester Airport

• Crewe and Manchester Piccadilly via Styal (In this direction only)

You can travel on the following at no extra cost:

• Metrolink between Manchester stations and East Didsbury / Manchester Airport

• Transport for Greater Manchester 42 and 142 bus services between Manchester City Centre and East Didsbury

• Transport for Greater Manchester 42C bus services between Manchester City Centre and Heald Green

• Transport for Greater Manchester 43 and 103 bus services between Manchester City Centre and Manchester Airport

• Transport for Greater Manchester 50 bus services between Manchester City Centre and Burnage / Mauldeth Road

• Transport for Greater Manchester 11 service between Stockport and Gatley

• TransPennine Express between Manchester Piccadilly and Manchester Airport

Northern train ticket restrictions have been lifted in the affected areas, including Advance and Peak restrictions, during this disruption. Restrictions will be reinstated once the disruption ends.

Replacement transport:

Road transport will be operated by Bestway and Phantom Travel as follows:

• From Manchester Piccadilly to Manchester Airport, calling at Mauldeth Road, Burnage, East Didsbury, Gatley, Heald Green and Manchester Airport at 12:45, 13:30

• From Manchester Airport to Manchester Piccadilly, calling at Heald Green, Gatley, East Didsbury, Burnage, Mauldeth Road and Manchester Piccadilly at 12:45, 13:30

Please check station information posters for the location of the bus pick-up points and be advised that bicycles, e-bikes and dogs (except for service dogs) are not permitted on replacement road transport.

Journey times may be extended by up to 60 minutes whilst travelling by road transport

You may use your ticket, at no extra cost on the following services between the main stations in Manchester city centre:

• Metrolink – regular tram services operate between Manchester Victoria, Manchester Piccadilly and Manchester Airport

• Bee Network free bus – this free service runs every 10 minutes, with stops conveniently located on the station approach at both Manchester Victoria and Manchester Piccadilly  

The pedestrian route between Manchester Victoria and Manchester Piccadilly is approximately 20 minutes.

You can also use your tickets at no extra cost on the following services:

• Avanti West Coast between Preston and Glasgow Central / Edinburgh until 14:00

• Northern between Manchester Piccadilly and Preston
