Description

Damage to the overhead wires between Ely and Kings Lynn means all the lines are blocked.

As a result, no trains can run between these stations.

This is expected until the end of the day.

Trains that usually run between London Kings Cross and Kings Lynn will now run between London Kings Cross and Cambridge or Ely only.

As a result, the below stations will not receive a train service for the remainder of the day:

• Kings Lynn

• Watlington

• Downham Market

• Littleport

Rail replacement buses have been requested to operate between Ely and Kings Lynn, calling at all stations. Once these are confirmed, journey planners will be updated.

Buses will take longer than trains and your journey will be delayed by at least 20 minutes.

The following rail replacement buses will run from Kings Lynn:

• 20:49 Kings Lynn to Ely

• 21:49 Kings Lynn to Ely

• 22:49 Kings Lynn to Ely

The following rail replacement buses will run from Ely:

• 20:45 Ely to Kings Lynn

• 22:07 Ely to Kings Lynn

• 23:07 Ely to Kings Lynn

• 00:06 Ely to Kings Lynn

• 00:37 Ely to Kings Lynn

Please be aware that replacement buses will take longer than trains, and your journey is expected to take at least 60 minutes longer than usual.

There have been reports of the carbon tubes on some train pantographs having been damaged on this route. This means that each affected train has had to be inspected, and some have been unable to continue running.

If these trains had continued, there would have been a chance of further damage to the overhead electric wires or the trains themselves. This means that it was essential to do this, but we are aware that it has affected your journey.

Network Rail will be investigating the reason for the damage, alongside control room staff and Fleet engineers.
