Can you tell me more about the incident?

A points failure has been reported, preventing the full scheduled timetable from running safely across this section of track.

Points are moveable sections of track that allow trains to switch from one line to another at junctions. They form a critical part of the railway signalling infrastructure managed by Network Rail.

Points can fail to operate for several reasons, such as an obstruction in the mechanism, track alignment issues, or electrical and motor faults within the signalling system. While signallers can sometimes use backup systems to secure points in a fixed position, severe faults reduce the capacity of the junction or block access entirely.

Specialist Network Rail Signalling & Telecoms engineers are attending the site to inspect the mechanism and carry out repairs. In some cases, working safely on the track requires trains to be held at red signals or stations nearby.
