Description

Damage to the overhead electric wires between Ely and Kings Lynn means all lines are blocked. As a result, Great Northern trains between Cambridge and Kings Lynn will not run.

Disruption is expected until the end of the day.

Customer advice:

No Great Northern services will run between Cambridge and Kings Lynn until the end of the day.

You will need to use an alternative route to travel between Cambridge and Ely and allow extra time to arrive at your destination.

If you are travelling between Ely and Kings Lynn, please speak to station staff or press the green emergency button on a station help point for further assistance.

Tickets are being accepted at no extra cost on:

• Alternative Great Northern and Thameslink services between London and Cambridge

• CrossCountry services between London, Cambridge and Peterborough

• East Midlands Railway services between Ely and Peterborough

• Greater Anglia services between London and Ely

• London Underground between London terminals

• Thameslink services between London and Peterborough

Rail replacement buses are being organised to run between Cambridge and Kings Lynn, however these have not yet been confirmed. We will provide further information as soon as we know the arrival times of the buses.

Travelling via an alternative route will take longer than usual. We recommend leaving at least 60 minutes more time to travel.

Can you tell me more about the incident?

Due to a fault affecting the overhead lines between Ely and Kings Lynn, services are unable to run between these stations until the end of day. The overhead line fault is causing damage to the pantographs (the arm which extends from the top of the train to draw power from the overhead lines) on trains. These trains are currently in the process of being repaired, meaning that fewer trains than normal are currently available.
