Description

There are engineering works taking place between Garsdale and Kirkby Stephen that are now expected to overrun. This has closed all lines running between these stations.

As a result of this, trains are unable to operate between Skipton and Appleby today.

What has happened?

Services between Skipton and Carlisle are being disrupted due to engineering works not being finished on time.

Network Rail staff are on site.

How does this affect my journey?

Train services are unable to run between Skipton and Appleby in both directions.

Northern services between Skipton and Morecambe / Lancaster are not affected.

What should I do?

From Leeds, trains will terminate at Skipton.

From Carlisle, trains will terminate at Appleby.

Any customers wishing to travel to or from Dent, please speak to a member of staff or use the station help point for transport as the replacement buses are unable to call at this station.

Customers are advised that they can travel between Preston and Carlisle in both directions on TransPennine Express services, at no extra cost. At Preston, there are train connections towards Leeds and Carlisle.

Northern train ticket restrictions have been lifted in the affected areas, including advance and peak restrictions, during this disruption. Restrictions will be reinstated once the disruption ends.

Replacement transport:

Road transport will operate between Skipton and Appleby in both directions, as follows:

  • From Skipton to Appleby at 10:10, 12:05, 13:25, 15:15, 17:15 and 19:45 (calling at Gargrave, Hellifield, Long Preston, Settle, Horton-in-Ribblesdale, Ribblehead, Garsdale, Kirkby Stephen and Appleby) From Appleby, the bus will call to drop off only at stations to Carlisle

  • From Appleby to Skipton at 10:15, 13:15, 16:15, 17:00, 18:15 and 20:10 (calling at Kirkby Stephen, Garsdale, Ribblehead, Horton-in-Ribblesdale. Settle, Long Preston, Hellifield, Gargrave and Skipton)

Please check station information posters for the location of the bus pick-up points and be advised that bicycles, e-bikes and dogs (except for service dogs) are not permitted on replacement road transport.

Please note, journey times may be extended by up to two hours when travelling using rail replacement transport.

Additional information:

A wall has collapsed on the line between Garsdale and Kirkby Stephen. This happened during some engineering work, and the line will not be reopened until the damaged wall has been repaired. All relevant staff have been sent to site to investigate the scale of the work required.
