Description
There was lots of planned essential engineering works and upgrades that took place during the Late May (also known as Spring) bank holiday weekend, from Saturday 24 May to Monday 26 May, as Network Rail worked to improve the railway. Network Rail carried out essential improvement and engineering work across the rail network during this time as fewer people usually travel by train.
In addition, some train companies made changes to their timetable, and to some train times, to match services to the number of customers travelling.
During the Late May weekend major engineering work took place at the following locations:
COMPLETED - Bedford - London St Pancras International: The lines will be blocked between Bedford and Harpenden, which will significantly disrupt journeys on Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 May. Alternative ways of getting to and from central London will be available from Sheffield, Derby, Nottingham and Leicester. Buses will run between Bedford and Harpenden so you can get to and from Luton Airport
ONGOING - Nuneaton - Stafford: From Saturday 24 May until Monday 26 May (and continuing until Sunday 1 June) the lines will be closed between Nuneaton and Stafford so that structures work, HS2 works, and earthworks can be undertaken. Train services through the 'Trent Valley' between Rugby / Coventry and Stafford will be amended and replacement buses will be running.
You can find details of all the engineering work that is taking place here.
