Description

Storm Boelo has been named by the Met Office. Amber and yellow weather warnings have been issued across Scotland and northern England on Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 October. LNER have made some pre-planned alterations to their services north of Northallerton and Darlington on Sunday 25 October. There may be further changes to service levels across the LNER network depending on the impact of Storm Boelo.

On Sunday 25 October you are advised not to travel between Edinburgh and Aberdeen in either direction due to expected disruption.

Across the rest of the LNER network, you are strongly encouraged to check your journey before travelling and allow extra time where possible.

Service impact:

Saturday 24 October

There are currently no planned changes to the LNER timetable. Please note there is major engineering work taking place between Doncaster and Northallerton which means an amended timetable is already in place.

Sunday 25 October

  • Trains are expected to run normally between London Kings Cross and Doncaster / Leeds

  • A reduced service of one train per hour is running between Northallerton / Darlington and Newcastle / Edinburgh, with short notice delays and alterations also possible

  • All LNER services to and from Aberdeen, with the exception of the 13:47 Aberdeen to Edinburgh service, will be cancelled

  • LNER services will continue running to and from Inverness, with short notice delays possible

Due to the severity of the weather and expected road closures, rail replacement coaches will not be available between Edinburgh and Aberdeen. As other operators are also impacted, it will not be possible to travel with a different train company.

Ticket easements:

Customers are advised not to travel between Edinburgh and Aberdeen in either direction due to expected disruption. Tickets for LNER services to and from Aberdeen and stations in between Edinburgh and Aberdeen dated Sunday 25 October can be used on alternative LNER services between Friday 23 October and up to and including Tuesday 27 October.

Ticket flexibility:

If your train is cancelled, you will be able to travel on an alternative service operated by any other participating train company, either two hours before or two hours after the original departure time of the cancelled service, in order to reach your destination.

If you decide not to travel or cannot complete your journey due to cancellations, you are entitled to a full refund from your original point of sale.

For further information and guidance please contact your train company or speak to a member of railway staff.
