Description

A fault with the signalling system between London St Pancras International and London Blackfriars means that trains must run at a reduced speed on the southbound line.

As a result, train services running to / from these stations will be delayed or reduced.

Disruption is expected until 10:00.

Customer advice:

Southbound delays are expected to services running from London St Pancras International towards London Blackfriars.

Some short notice alterations are possible as a result, meaning some services may have cancelled stops, or will terminate and restart at a different station to normal.

In addition to this, the following Thameslink services will be suspended until further notice:

  • Services that run between East Grinstead and London Bridge / Bedford

  • Services that run between Orpington and London Blackfriars / Luton

Please check before you travel this morning. For most journeys, you can travel using your normal route, but please allow some extra time for your journey. If your planned train is affected, then you may need to take a different train than planned, change trains en route, or use an alternative route instead.

Tickets will be accepted for no extra cost on the following:

  • London Underground on any reasonable route including between London Terminals

  • Southern services on any reasonable route including between East Grinstead, East Croydon and London Victoria

  • Southeastern services between Orpington and London

Planning your journey:

You can check your journey using the Live Departure Boards, and you can view a live map of the network.

You can also use the Thameslink app to find up-to-date information.

Can you tell me more about the incident?

This part of the network uses track circuits to detect trains. If a circuit fails, the system may think a train is still there, blocking others from moving forward.

Drivers must stop at red signals and get verbal permission to proceed at a reduced speed, which can cause significant delays, especially in areas with long track sections.

Faults can be caused by electronic issues or track obstructions. Network Rail is investigating, and we’ll share updates as soon as we have them.

Check before you travel:

You can check your journey using the National Rail Enquiries real-time Journey Planner.

Compensation:

You may be entitled to compensation if you experience a delay in completing your journey today. Please keep your train ticket and make a note of your journey, as both will be required to support any claim.
