Description

Following a fault with the signalling system at Manchester Airport, all lines have now reopened. As service recovers, trains running between Manchester Piccadilly and Manchester Airport / Stockport may still be cancelled or delayed by up to 40 minutes.

Disruption is expected until 18:30.

What should I do?

You can travel on the next Northern service to your destination, where available.

You can travel on the following operators and routes at no extra cost:

  • Bee Network Metrolink services between Manchester Piccadilly and Manchester Airport

Please note that other train operators may also be affected by disruption – please check your whole journey before travelling.

Northern train ticket restrictions have been lifted in the affected areas, including Advance and Peak restrictions, during this disruption. Restrictions will be reinstated once the disruption ends.

TransPennine Express customer advice:

Services can now run normally, however due to the earlier disruption the following routes may still experience delays and short notice alterations until the train service recovers.

You should continue to travel as planned; however, your journey may be delayed by 45 minutes.

You still can use your tickets at no extra cost on the following services:

  • Metrolink services between Manchester Piccadilly / Manchester Victoria and Manchester Airport in both directions until 19:00

  • Northern services between Manchester Piccadilly / Preston and Manchester Airport in both directions until 19:00


Usual ticket restrictions have been relaxed. If you have a ticket which is usually valid on a specific train from Manchester Piccadilly, you may use it to travel on any of our trains from Manchester Victoria.
