Description

A number of incidents between Moorgate and Hertford North means that some lines are blocked. As a result, trains running between these stations may be cancelled, delayed by up to 20 minutes or revised.

Disruption is expected until 22:00.

Customer advice:

If you are travelling between Moorgate and Hertford North / Stevenage, you are advised to delay travelling if possible.

If you must travel now, you will need to use an alternative route and allow at least an extra 45 minutes to complete your journey.

Great Northern services on routes between Moorgate, Welwyn Garden City, and Stevenage via Hertford North are currently affected by two separate incidents:

Fire alarm sounding at Moorgate: Which is causing the line to be closed between Moorgate and Finsbury Park.

Safety inspection of the track at Cuffley: Which is causing the line to be closed between Gordon Hill and Hertford North.

This means that the following stations will not be served:

Drayton Park: Please use Finsbury Park as an alternative which is a short distance from Drayton Park

Highbury & Islington: Please use alternative London Underground (Victoria line) services between here and Finsbury Park to complete your journey.

Essex Road: You will need to use London Buses to / from Finsbury Park to complete your journey to or from this station

Old Street: Please use alternative London Underground (Northern line) services between here and London Kings Cross to complete your journey

Moorgate: Please use Farringdon as an alternative which is short distance from Moorgate using Thameslink services to connect between Farringdon and Finsbury Park

Between Gordon Hill and Hertford North:

Crews Hill, Cuffley, Bayford and Watton at Stone: No train services can call at these stations. If you require replacement transport, please speak to station staff where available or use the station Help Point.

Hertford North: For travel to/from London, please use Greater Anglia services between Hertford East and London Liverpool Street.

  • Thameslink between Farringdon and Finsbury Park

  • Greater Anglia between Hertford East and London Liverpool street

  • London Underground between Finsbury Park and Highbury Islington and between London Kings Cross and Old Street

  • London Buses between Finsbury Park and Moorgate

You can continue to use your ticket at no extra cost on Uno Buses on the following routes:

  • Uno 242 between Hatfield and Potters Bar

  • Uno 243 between Hatfield, Potters Bar, and High Barnet station

  • Uno 341/641 between Hatfield, Hertford, and Broxbourne

  • Uno 602 between Hatfield, St Albans, and Watford Junction

  • Uno 610 between Hatfield, Harpenden, and Luton

  • Uno 625 between Hatfield and Stevenage

  • Uno 653 between St Albans, Hatfield, and Welwyn Garden City

Some stations on this route won't have an alternative public transport option. Great Northern will do their best to provide alternative road transport, but there may be a long wait. Can you tell me more about the incident?

Services are disrupted by two separate safety issues this evening. Following a fire alarm sounding at Moorgate, the station has been evacuated and trains are held outside the tunnels while emergency services and station staff carry out mandatory safety checks. In addition, Network Rail engineers are carrying out a safety inspection of the track near Cuffley following a reported fault, temporarily closing the line between Gordon Hill and Hertford North until the railway is confirmed safe to reopen.
