Description

A tree on the railway between Altrincham and Stockport means that some lines are blocked. As a result, trains running between these stations may be cancelled or delayed.

Disruption is expected until 17:30.

What's happened?

Services between Navigation Road and Stockport in this direction only are being disrupted due to a tree blocking the railway.

Network Rail staff are on site.

How does this affect my journey?

Train services are unable to run between Navigation and Stockport in this direction only.

Services between Chester and Manchester Piccadilly will be affected by this disruption.

Northern services between Manchester Piccadilly and Chester are not affected.

You should continue your journey using the alternative suggestions below.

You can travel on the following operators and routes at no extra cost in both directions:

  • Bee Network buses 7, 11, 42A. 42B, 43, 192, 103, 310, 313, 368, 370, 371 and 378

  • Metrolink services between Altrincham and Manchester

  • Transport for Wales services between Chester and Manchester Piccadilly

Please note that other train operators may also be affected by disruption – please check your whole journey before travelling.

Northern train ticket restrictions have been lifted in the affected areas, including Advance and Peak restrictions, during this disruption. Restrictions will be reinstated once the disruption ends.

Replacement transport:

Road transport has been confirmed to run as follows:

  • At 15:45 from Northwich to Manchester Piccadilly, calling at all stations to Manchester Piccadilly. Operated by Bestway

  • At 15:30 from Stockport to Chester, calling at all stations to Chester. Operated by Bestway

  • At 16:10 from Chester to Manchester Piccadilly. Operated by Bestway


Please check station information posters for the location of the bus pick up points and be advised that bicycles, e-bikes and dogs (except for service dogs) are not permitted on replacement road transport.

Journey times may be extended by up to 60 minutes whilst travelling by road transport.
