Description

Theft of signalling cables in the Newark area means that all lines are disrupted.

If you are travelling between Newark Northgate and Doncaster, and also between Newark Castle and Lincoln, your journey will be disrupted. As a result, trains running in these areas may be cancelled, delayed by up to 60 minutes or revised.

There are a number of different options available to help you complete your journey. Please check your whole journey using the National Rail Journey Planner as some of the alternative routes listed below that you can use your ticket on may also be affected by this disruption.

This is expected until 17:00.

How does this affect my train?

Trains running through the area in both directions between Newark Castle and Lincoln cannot run.

  • Matlock / Derby / Nottingham / Cleethorpes route: Trains will run between Matlock and Nottingham and between Lincoln and Cleethorpes only

  • Crewe / Derby/ Nottingham / Lincoln route: Trains will run between Crewe and Newark Castle only

At present we are expecting the problem to be fixed in the next 3 hours. As soon as the problem is fixed the priority will be to get trains running to their advertised times again. We expect the advertised timetable to resume on the affected routes by 17:00.

How do I get where I need to be?

You should continue to travel as originally planned however your journey may be delayed by 60 minutes.

If travelling between Nottingham / Derby and Lincoln, you can use your ticket at no extra cost to travel on Northern services between Lincoln and Sheffield and EMR services between Sheffield and Nottingham / Derby.

You can also use your ticket to travel at no extra cost on EMR services between Sleaford and Lincoln, and between Nottingham and Sleaford. These alternative routes are expected to increase your journey time by 30-60 minutes.

All of these alternative route options are available in the opposite direction too. Don’t worry about your ticket, other train operators know about the disruption to your journey and your ticket can be used at no extra cost on their trains.

A limited rail replacement bus service will run between Newark Castle and Lincoln in both directions. Once buses are confirmed, they will be advertised in journey planners.

East Midlands Railway are still looking to source more rail replacement buses, in order to run a more more reliable service. Please remember that this can take time and be assured that teams are working tirelessly to arrange this as quickly as possible for you.

LNER customer advice:

You can use your ticket at no extra cost on East Midlands Railway services between Peterborough and Lincoln.

Rail replacement buses are running as follows:

  • 13:20 Stagecoach double decker Lincoln Central to Newark North Gate

  • 14:30 Stagecoach double decker Newark North Gate to Lincoln Central

  • 14:30 KEE Travel bus - Newark North Gate to Lincoln Central

If you are travelling between Newark Northgate and Doncaster, your journey may be delayed by up to 60 minutes.

Additional information:

Network Rail and the British Transport Police are now on site and investigating. Once the damage has been identified, we will have a better estimate of how long the repair is likely to take.
