Description

The emergency services have completed their work following an earlier incident. This has allowed all lines to reopen between Manchester Victoria / Manchester Oxford Road and Newton-le-Willows. Trains may continue to be delayed by 20 minutes, revised or cancelled.

Disruption is expected until 12:00.

Northern customer advice:

To help you with your journey, you may use your tickets at no extra cost on the following services in both directions until 09:30:

  • Any alternative Northern services to connect via Wigan and Preston for services towards Liverpool and Manchester stations

  • Metrolink services between Eccles and Manchester stations

  • Transport for Wales services between Chester and Warrington Bank Quay

Northern train ticket restrictions have been lifted in the affected areas, including Advance and Peak restrictions, during this disruption. Restrictions will be reinstated once the disruption ends.

Rail replacement transport has been arranged to run:

  • Departing Huyton at 08:40 calling at stations to Manchester Oxford Road operated by Ocean Travel

  • Departing Manchester Oxford Road at 08:45 calling at stations to Huyton operated by Bestway

  • Departing Manchester Victoria at 08:35 calling at stations to Chester operated by RSZ

  • Departing Warrington Bank Quay at 09:25 calling at stations to Manchester Victoria operated by Phantom Travel

Journey times will be extended by up to 60 minutes when using road replacement transport. Please allow extra time to complete your journey.

  • Any alternative TransPennine Express service between Liverpool Lime Street and Manchester Piccadilly. From Manchester Piccadilly, you can connect with services to Huddersfield and York

  • Bee Network operates a free bus every 10 minutes between Manchester Victoria and Manchester Piccadilly

  • East Midlands Railway services between Manchester Oxford Road and Liverpool Lime Street

  • LNER and CrossCountry services between York and Newcastle/Edinburgh

  • Metrolink Trams between Manchester Victoria and Manchester Piccadilly

  • Northern services between Manchester Oxford Road and Liverpool Lime Street

Rail replacement transport has been requested to run between Manchester Victoria and Liverpool Lime Street in both directions. More information will be provided once it has been confirmed.

Additionally a minibus has been organised to shuttle between Warrington Bank Quay and Warrington Central to connect with Northern services. This will arrive at approximately 09:00 and is provided by Keanes Coaches.

Road transport will take longer than rail services. Please allow extra time to complete your journey.
