Description

All lines between Patricroft and Newton-le-Willows have reopened following a fault on a train between these stations.

Whilst service recovers, trains running between Manchester Victoria / Manchester Piccadilly and Newton-le-Willows may be cancelled, delayed by up to 40 minutes or revised.

This is expected until 10:30.

How does this affect my journey?

Train services are now able to run between Eccles and Newton-le-Willows in both directions.

Services on the following routes are returning to normal but some delays and cancellations can still be expected:

  • Between Leeds and Chester

  • Between Manchester Airport and Liverpool Lime Street

Northern services between Manchester Oxford Road and Liverpool Lime Street via Warrington Central are not affected.

What should I do?

You can travel on the next Northern service to your destination, where available.

You can also travel on Transport for Wales services between Manchester Piccadilly and Chester in both directions at no extra cost.

Please note that other train operators may also be affected by disruption – please check your whole journey before travelling.

Northern train ticket restrictions have been lifted in the affected areas, including Advance and Peak restrictions, during this disruption. Restrictions will be reinstated once the disruption ends.

Replacement transport:

Road transport will be requested should this disruption continue.

TransPennine Express customer advice:

You should continue to travel as planned, however, your journey may be delayed.

You can use your tickets at no extra cost on the following services:

  • East Midlands Railway between Manchester Piccadilly and Liverpool Lime Street

  • Northern between Manchester Oxford Road and Liverpool Lime Street

  • Northern between Newton-le-Willows and Warrington Bank Quay

  • TransPennine Express between Manchester Piccadilly and Liverpool Lime Street
