Description

There are currently multiple incidents which are causing disruption to services running through the Newton-le-Willows area:

  • All lines have now reopened following a safety inspection on a train in the Newton-le-Willows area. As service recovers, trains running between Manchester Victoria and Chester may still be delayed by up to 20 minutes.

  • A fault on a train at Whiston means that all lines are blocked. As a result, trains running between Manchester Victoria and Wigan Northwestern / Liverpool Lime Street may be cancelled, delayed or diverted.

Disruption is expected until 20:30.

Northern customer advice:

Following disruption caused by a safety inspection on a train, services between Manchester Victoria and Chester are now able to run.

However, services between Rainhill and Huyton are being disrupted due to a broken down train.

How does this affect my journey?

Train services are now able to run between Manchester Victoria and Chester (in both directions). Train services are unable to run between Rainhill and Huyton (in both directions).

Services between Leeds and Chester may still be affected by this disruption. Services between Manchester Airport and Liverpool Lime Street will be affected by this disruption.

Northern services between Manchester Piccadilly and Chester are not affected.

Northern services between Manchester Oxford Road and Liverpool Lime Street via Warrington Central are not affected.

What should I do?

You can travel on the next Northern service to your destination, where available.

You can also travel on TransPennine Express services at no extra cost between Manchester Oxford Road and Liverpool Lime Street.

Please note that other train operators may also be affected by disruption – please check your whole journey before travelling.

Northern train ticket restrictions have been lifted in the affected areas, including Advance and Peak restrictions, during this disruption. Restrictions will be reinstated once the disruption ends.

You can use your ticket at no extra cost on the the following services:

  • Northern services between Liverpool Lime Street and Manchester Oxford Road.

  • East Midlands services between Liverpool Lime Street and Manchester Piccadilly.

  • TransPennine Express services between Liverpool Lime Street and Manchester Piccadilly.

  • Metrolink services between Manchester Piccadilly and Manchester Victoria.

  • Northern services between Newton-le-Willows and Warrington Bank Quay.

Bee Network Free Bus – this free service runs every 10 minutes, with stops conveniently located on the station approach at both Manchester Piccadilly and Manchester Victoria.

If you are travelling to/from Newton-Le-Willows you can use Northern services to/from Warrington Bank Quay. Please be aware that it is approximately a 20-minute walk between Warrington Bank Quay and Warrington Central to then connect onto the next available service to/from Liverpool Lime Street and Manchester.
