Description

The Met Office have issued yellow weather warnings for wind and heavy rain for today across various parts of England.

The following routes are affected by flooding in the Carlisle area:

  • Carlisle - Hexham

  • Carlisle - Maryport / Whitehaven

  • Carlisle - Leeds

Carlisle - Hexham (disruption is expected until 10:00)

Trains between Carlisle and Hexham may be cancelled, delayed by up to 40 minutes or revised.

Road transport has been requested to operate between Carlisle and Hexham. Further updates will follow once confirmed.

Carlisle - Maryport / Whitehaven (disruption is expected until the end of the day)

Trains between Carlisle and Maryport / Whitehaven will be cancelled. You cannot travel by train between Carlisle and Whitehaven in either direction.

Due to adverse road conditions, rail replacement buses will not be provided. This will be assessed further at 14:00.

Carlisle - Leeds (disruption expected until 10:00)

Services will be revised to run between Appleby and Leeds only. You cannot travel by train between Carlisle and Appleby in either direction.

Rail replacement buses will not be provided.

Ticket easements and acceptance:

Northern train ticket restrictions have been lifted in the affected areas, including Advance and Peak restrictions, during this disruption. Restrictions will be reinstated once disruption ends.

Additionally, Northern tickets may be used at no extra cost on board Avanti West Coast services between Lancaster and Carlisle in both directions until 12:00.

Additional information:

There have been reports of flooding at various locations on lines around Carlisle. Between Carlisle and Whitehaven the poor weather has also caused multiple signalling faults and a potential landslip. Network Rail engineers are on site.
