Description
Lines have now reopened following a fault with the signalling system in the Wigan Wallgate area. However, whilst service recovers, trains running between Southport and Wigan Wallgate may be delayed by up to 45 minutes or revised.
Disruption is expected until 09:00.

Train services are able to run between Southport and Wigan Wallgate (in both directions).
Services on the following routes may be affected by this disruption whilst services are recovered:
Between Southport and Stalybridge
Between Southport and Manchester Oxford Road
Between Southport and Wigan Wallgate
Northern services between Wigan North Western and Manchester Victoria / Liverpool Lime Street are not affected.
What should I do?
You can travel on the next Northern service to your destination, where available.
You can also travel on Merseyrail services at no extra cost between Southport and Ormskirk / Liverpool for connections to Wigan and Manchester.
Please note that other train operators may also be affected by disruption – please check your whole journey before travelling.
Northern train ticket restrictions have been lifted in the affected areas, including Advance and Peak restrictions, during this disruption. Restrictions will be reinstated once the disruption ends.
