Description

The emergency services have completed their work allowing lines to be reopened between Manchester and Liverpool Lime Street / Warrington Bank Quay. However, trains may still be delayed by up to 20 minutes, cancelled or revised as services return to normal.

Disruption is expected until 19:30.

Northern customer advice:

To help you complete your journey, rail replacement transport to depart Manchester Oxford Road at 18:00 calling at all stops to Newton-le-Willows and setting down to Liverpool Lime Street.

Please note, journey times may be extended by up to 90 minutes when using rail replacement transport.

If you are travelling to / from Manchester / Liverpool:

You can use your ticket at no extra cost on East Midlands Railway, Northern and TransPennine Express services via Warrington Central.

If you are travelling to / from Chester:

  • Northern services between Manchester Piccadilly and Chester, please note these services operate with a different calling pattern.

  • Transport for Wales services between Manchester stations and Chester in both directions

You can also use your ticket on Transport for Greater Manchester buses between Manchester stations at no extra cost.

Northern train ticket restrictions have been lifted in the affected areas, including Advance and Peak restrictions, during this disruption. Restrictions will be reinstated once the disruption ends.

TransPennine Express customer advice:

To help you complete your journey, rail replacement transport has been requested to run as follows:

  • Liverpool Lime Street and Manchester Victoria, calling at Newton Le Willows, this is expected to arrive at 17:15

  • Manchester Victoria and Liverpool Lime Street calling at Newton Le Willows, this is expected to arrive at 17:40

Please note, journey times may be extended by up to 90 minutes when using rail replacement transport.

  • Any alternative TransPennine Express service between Manchester Piccadilly and Liverpool Lime Street. From Manchester Piccadilly, you can connect with services to Huddersfield and York

  • Northern services between Manchester Oxford Road and Liverpool Lime Street

  • Metrolink Trams between Manchester Piccadilly and Manchester Victoria

  • Bee Network operates a free bus every 10 minutes between Manchester Victoria and Manchester Piccadilly

  • LNER and CrossCountry services between Edinburgh / Newcastle and York
