Description

A shortage of train drivers between Birmingham New Street and Plymouth means fewer trains are able to run between these stations. As a result, trains may be cancelled.

This is expected until the end of the day.

Customer advice:

To assist you with your journey, you can use your ticket on the following services at no extra cost:

  • CrossCountry between Birmingham New Street and Reading, changing there for Great Western Railway services towards Bristol / Plymouth / Penzance

  • Great Western Railway between Cheltenham Spa / Gloucester and Bristol Temple Meads

  • Great Western Railway between Bristol Temple Meads and Paignton / Plymouth / Penzance

You do not need to amend your ticket to use it on these services.

Other Options:

If your CrossCountry train is cancelled, then you can use your ticket on the two CrossCountry services operating before and the two CrossCountry services after your cancelled service.

Road transport is also in operation between Bristol Parkway and Tiverton Parkway / the South West (all operated by Amans Travel):

From Bristol Parkway:

  • 18:30 Bristol Parkway direct to Tiverton Parkway, connecting into Great Western Railway services towards Plymouth

  • 19:30 Bristol Parkway direct to Tiverton Parkway, connecting into Great Western Railway services towards Plymouth

  • 20:30 Bristol Parkway direct to Tiverton Parkway, connecting into Great Western Railway services towards Plymouth

  • 22:45 Bristol Parkway direct to Taunton, then dropping off at stations towards Plymouth

  • 22:45 Bristol Parkway direct to Exeter St Davids and then direct to Plymouth


From Tiverton Parkway / Taunton:

  • 16:45 from Tiverton Parkway direct to Bristol Parkway (this connects out of the 15:15 Great Western Railway Plymouth - London Paddington service)

  • 17:45 from Tiverton Parkway direct to Bristol Parkway (this connects out of the 14:20 Great Western Railway Penzance - London Paddington service)

  • 18:45 from Tiverton Parkway direct to Bristol Parkway (this connects out of the 16:50 Great Western Railway Plymouth - London Paddington service)

  • 19:45 from Tiverton Parkway direct to Bristol Parkway then calling at Cheltenham Spa, Worcestershire Parkway and Birmingham New Street (this connects out of the 16:20 Great Western Railway Penzance - London Paddington service)

  • 20:30 from Taunton direct to Bristol Parkway then calling at Cheltenham Spa, Worcestershire Parkway and Birmingham New Street (this connects out of the 18:48 Great Western Railway Plymouth - Cardiff Central service)

If you decide to travel from a different station due to this disruption and need to return to that station later, you will also be able to use your existing ticket to do this at no extra cost
