Description

The Met Office have issued yellow weather warnings for heavy rainfall today, Saturday 13 December.

There are further yellow and amber warnings for heavy rainfall on Sunday 14 and Monday 15 December.

The warnings cover north west England, parts of northern Wales and western Scotland.

  • Heavy rain can overwhelm drainage systems, flooding tracks and slowing down trains

  • Water runs off hard ground onto the tracks, while ballast can wash away, destabilising the track

  • Heavy rain can also short-circuit power supplies for trains and cause signalling equipment to fail

Speed restrictions may be implemented to ensure trains are able to run safely on the railway.

Any weather related disruptions will be posted here once known.

Please check before you travel, and allow extra time for your journey on the affected days. Services may be subject to delays and cancellations as a result of the poor weather.

Check before you travel:

You can check your journey using the National Rail Enquiries real-time Journey Planner.

Please take note of any Service Updates that may be showing with a warning triangle on your journey.

Compensation:

You may be entitled to compensation if you experience a delay in completing your journey today. Please keep your train ticket and make a note of your journey, as both will be required to support any claim.
