Description

Damage to the overhead electric wires between Preston and Lancaster means that all lines are blocked.

Trains running through these stations may be cancelled, revised or delayed by up to 60 minutes as a result.

Major disruption is expected until 19:00.

Additional information:

A tree has fallen on the line between Preston and Lancaster. This has caused damage to the overhead lines between these stations.

Avanti West Coast customer advice:

Your ticket can be used at no extra cost on the following services in both directions:

  • CrossCountry services between Birmingham New Street and Edinburgh

  • LNER services between London Kings Cross and Edinburgh

  • Northern services between Leeds / Newcastle and Carlisle

  • ScotRail services between Glasgow Queen Street and Edinburgh

  • TransPennine Express services between Manchester Piccadilly and Glasgow Central (please note these services are also disrupted due to this)

If your train is cancelled, your ticket is valid on one of the two Avanti West Coast services immediately before your booked train, or one of the two immediately after.

If you no longer wish to travel because your train's delayed or cancelled, you can request a full refund from where you bought your ticket.

Northern customer advice:

Northern services between Manchester Airport and Blackpool North are currently not affected by this particular issue.

Road transport will be operated by Bestway / S-Line as follows:

  • From Preston to Lancaster, at 16:15

  • From Lancaster to Preston at 16:45

Please check station information posters for the location of the bus pick-up points and be advised that bicycles, e-bikes and dogs (except for service dogs) are not permitted on replacement road transport.

When services start moving, you may travel on TransPennine Express trains between Lancaster and Preston, at no extra cost.

Please note that other train operators may also be affected by disruption – please check your whole journey before travelling.

Northern train ticket restrictions have been lifted in the affected areas, including Advance and Peak restrictions, during this disruption. Restrictions will be reinstated once the disruption ends.

TransPennine Express customer advice:

To help you complete your journey, rail replacement transport has been requested to run between:

  • Preston and Lancaster

  • Preston, Lancaster, Oxenholme Lake District, Penrith North Lakes and Carlisle in both directions

You can use your tickets at no extra cost on:

  • Alternative TransPennine Express services between Manchester stations / York / Newcastle and Edinburgh

  • Avanti West Coast services between Preston and Glasgow Central

  • Cross Country services between York and Edinburgh

  • LNER services between York and Edinburgh

  • ScotRail services between Glasgow Queen Street and Edinburgh

Please see station information posters for the location of rail replacement pick up points and be advised that journey times may be extended by 90 minutes whilst travelling by rail replacement transport.
