Description

A shortage of train crew means that some Thameslink trains are unable to run.

This is expected for the remainder of today, and until early hours of tomorrow morning.

Customer advice:

Some Thameslink routes are affected by a shortage of train crew this afternoon, 1 August, into the early hours of tomorrow morning, 2 August. Details of each affected route are shown below.

This means you may need to leave more time to travel on an alternative service or another route.

Services affected:

St Albans City - Sutton:

There will be some cancellations until the end of service, and other trains will not complete their full journeys across the whole route. We recommend you leave at least 30 minutes of extra time if your train is affected.

To help you complete your journey as quickly as possible, your Thameslink ticket will be accepted at no extra cost on:

  • Southern and Thameslink on any reasonable surrounding routes

  • London Underground services across London on any reasonable route

  • London Buses on any route between the Sutton or Wimbledon areas and Central London

  • London Trams between Wimbledon, Mitcham Junction and the Croydon area

  • Southeastern services between Herne Hill and London Victoria

  • South Western Railway services between Wimbledon and London Waterloo

Using an alternative route will also extend your journey time. Please allow additional time to travel on another operator.

Bedford - Three Bridges / Brighton:

Some late-evening and overnight trains will be cancelled on this route.

Where possible, during the evening, we recommend you travel on an alternative train. This may take around 20-30 minutes longer than usual. Southern will accept tickets between London and the South Coast.

Buses will replace some overnight trains on this route, and you should check your journey carefully before you travel.

Planning your journey:

You can check your journey using the Live Departure Boards, and by viewing a live map of the network.

You can also use the alternative route guide.

If you're travelling in the London area, you can plan journeys on alternative routes by using the TfL Journey Planner.

You can also use the Thameslink app to find up-to-date information.

Can you tell me more about the incident?

Thameslink are doing everything they can to run as many trains as possible, but unfortunately, there is a shortage of available train drivers.

As a result, the service needs to be altered, so Thameslink are letting you know as soon as possible and putting alternative arrangements in place.

Check before you travel:

You can check your journey using the National Rail Enquiries real-time Journey Planner.

For helpful advice if you need to travel on a rail replacement service, including accessibility and bicycle information, please use our Rail Replacement Services page.

You can find the pick-up and set-down location of rail replacement services by checking station signage or by searching for your station on our Find a Station page.

Please be advised that replacement vehicles may be busier than usual, and you should allow extra time for your journey.

Compensation:

You may be entitled to compensation if you experience a delay in completing your journey today. Please keep your train ticket and make a note of your journey, as both will be required to support any claim.
