Between Hexham / Newcastle / Bishop Auckland / Darlington / Thornaby / Middlesbrough and Saltburn

Description

This disruption is currently estimated to continue until June 2025. Information for South Bank customers will continue to show on Journey Planners and Live Departure Boards.

An unsafe footbridge at South Bank means that trains are currently unable to call at platform 2 at this station.

This means that trains running from Middlesbrough towards Saltburn, in this direction only, will run non-stop between Middlesbrough and Redcar Central. South Bank will not be served.

Customer advice:

To assist customers to complete their journey, a shuttle bus has been provided between Middlesbrough, South Bank and Redcar Central, in this direction only. This will be operated by E-Travel.

Customers at South Bank should use this shuttle bus to continue their journey, or catch a train service to Middlesbrough, and then board a return train service for stations to Saltburn.

Additional information:

Trains in the opposite direction from Redcar Central towards Middlesbrough are able to run normally.

There is currently no estimate of when the footbridge will be repaired as it is privately owned by the local council. Northern and Network Rail will liaise with the council to provide an update.

Rail replacement services:

Journey times will be extended by 10 minutes whilst travelling by rail replacement transport.

For helpful advice if you need to travel on a rail replacement service, including accessibility and bicycle information, please use our Rail Replacement Services page.

You can find the pick-up and set-down location of rail replacement services by checking station signage or by searching for your station on our Find a Station page.

Please be advised that replacement vehicles may be busier than usual, and you should allow extra time for your journey.

Compensation:

You may be entitled to compensation if you experience a delay in completing your journey today. Please keep your train ticket and make a note of your journey, as both will be required to support any claim.
