Description

All lines are closed between Wigan Wallgate and Southport whilst the emergency services deal with an incident. To allow them to carry out their work safely, no trains can currently run through the area. Trains running between Wigan Wallgate and Southport will be revised or cancelled.

This is expected to continue until the end of the day.

Train services are unable to run between Wigan Wallgate and Southport are in both directions.

Services on the following routes will be affected by this disruption:

• Stalybridge to Southport services will be terminated/started back at Wigan Wallgate

• Manchester Oxford Road to Southport will be cancelled in both directions

Northern services between Liverpool Lime Street and Wigan North Western are not affected.

You should continue your journey using the alternative suggestions below.

You can travel on the following operators and routes at no extra cost:

• Bee Network buses between Wigan and Appley Bridge on the 635 bus

• Merseyrail services between:

  • Southport and Liverpool Central

  • Ormskirk and Liverpool Central

  • Headbolt Lane and Liverpool Central

Please note that other train operators may also be affected by disruption – please check your whole journey before travelling.

Northern train ticket restrictions have been lifted in the affected areas, including Advance and Peak restrictions, during this disruption. Restrictions will be reinstated once the disruption ends.

Rail replacement transport:

Rail replacement transport has been arranged to run as follows, operated by Bestway / Premier:

• Departing on the hour from Wigan Wallgate to Southport, calling at all stations

• Departing XX:30 from Southport to Wigan Wallgate, calling at all stations to Wigan Wallgate
