Description
There has been extensive damage to the overhead line equipment in the Stockport area. To allow repairs to be carried out, all lines have been closed.
As a result, trains are unable to run in the Stockport area and will be delayed, cancelled, diverted or revised.
Major disruption is expected until 10:00.
Avanti West Coast customer advice:
Your ticket can be used at no extra cost on rail replacement coaches between Macclesfield and Wilmslow, and also between Stockport and Wilmslow in both directions until further notice.
Your ticket can also be used at no extra cost on CrossCountry services between Manchester Piccadilly and Birmingham New Street in both directions. Please note other train operators are affected by this disruption.
If your train is cancelled, your ticket is valid on one of the two Avanti West Coast services immediately before your booked train, or one of the two immediately after.
If you no longer wish to travel because your train's delayed or cancelled, you can request a full refund from where you bought your ticket.
CrossCountry customer advice:
If your CrossCountry train is cancelled, you may use your ticket on CrossCountry services operating two hours before or two hours after your cancelled service.
Alternatively, you may use your ticket on the following services and routes at no extra cost:
Avanti West Coast services between Manchester Piccadilly and Stoke-on-Trent / Stafford
Avanti West Coast services between Crewe and Birmingham New Street
Northern services between Manchester Piccadilly and Macclesfield

You do not need to amend your ticket to use it on these services. Please note other train operators are affected by this disruption.
If you decide to travel from a different station due to this disruption and need to return to that station later, you will also be able to use your existing ticket to do this at no extra cost.
Unfortunately, any seat reservations will not be carried over to another train, but Coach B, H and L are our unreserved coaches on CrossCountry services (where available) so please head to them.

How does this affect my train?
East Midlands Railway services will not be able to call at Stockport and will be diverted where possible.
The diversion will add up to 20 minutes to your journey.
How do I get where I need to be?
You should continue to travel as planned however your journey maybe delayed by up to 20 minutes.
If you require Stockport, East Midlands Railway are currently looking into arranging replacement bus services. More information will be provided once this is confirmed in place.
You may use your tickets at no additional cost on the following services in both directions:
TransPennine Express between Liverpool Lime Street and Sheffield
Northern between Manchester Piccadilly and Sheffield and Manchester Piccadilly

What's happened?
Services at Stockport to / from all directions are being disrupted due to damage to the overhead electric wires.
Network Rail staff are on site.
How does this affect my journey?
Train services are unable to run between Manchester Piccadilly and Stoke-on-Trent in both directions. You can not travel, there are no trains running and no replacement buses.
CrossCountry will operate a limited service calling at Stoke-on-Trent and Macclesfield from the South. Road transport will be provided between Manchester Piccadilly and Macclesfield but this is not guaranteed and is expected to be extremely busy.
Services on the following routes will be affected by this disruption:
Between Manchester Piccadilly and Buxton - Services will operate between Hazel Grove and Buxton only. Road transport will be provided between Manchester Piccadilly and Hazel Grove
Between Manchester and Chester via Altrincham - A limited train service will operate between Chester and Altrincham only. Customers should change onto the Metrolink tram network at Altringham for onward travel to and from Manchester stations
Northern services between Manchester Piccadilly and Crewe via Styal are not affected by this.

You should continue your journey using the alternative suggestions below.
You can travel on the following train operators and routes at no extra cost:
Bee Network services between Manchester Piccadilly and Stockport
CrossCountry services between Stoke-on-Trent and Macclesfield
Metrolink tram services between Manchester Piccadilly and Altrincham
Please note that other train operators are also affected by disruption – please check your whole journey before travelling.
Northern train ticket restrictions have been lifted in the affected areas, including Advance and Peak restrictions, during this disruption. Restrictions will be reinstated once the disruption ends.
Rail replacement transport:
Road transport has been requested to operate between Manchester Piccadilly and Hazel Grove. More updates will follow once this is confirmed in place.
Please check station information posters for the location of the bus pick-up points and be advised that bicycles, e-bikes and dogs (except for service dogs) are not permitted on replacement road transport.
Journey times may be extended whilst travelling by road transport.
TransPennine Express customer advice:
Services may be diverted between Manchester Piccadilly and Sheffield via an alternative route.
Trains diverting via an alternative route will be unable to call at Stockport and may be delayed.
What should I do?
Your ticket can be used at no extra cost on Bee Network bus routes 11, 42, 192, 197, 203, 370, 374, 377, 378 and 379.
If you are travelling to / from Stockport, to help you complete your journey, rail replacement transport has been requested to run between Manchester Piccadilly and Sheffield via Stockport as follows:
The road transport has been requested to depart Sheffield at every hour, on the hour in place of the cancelled train service beginning at 07:00
The road transport has been requested to depart Manchester Piccadilly at quarter past the hour, in place of the cancelled train service beginning at 06:15
Once the line re-opens you will be able travel to / from Stockport on East Midlands Railway, Northern and alternative TransPennine Express services. Please note other train operators are affected by this disruption.

Pay as you go customers
If all or part of your journey requires a rail replacement bus, please tap in at your origin station and tap out at your destination. If you need to tap out at a gate line after travelling on a rail replacement bus, station staff can assist. You can also add any missing taps using the Transport for Wales app or website.
Pay as you go is only valid on Transport for Wales and CrossCountry services. If you travel with another operator or on a local bus service, you must first tap out at the same station within one hour of tapping in and buy an alternative ticket before boarding.
If you wish to abandon your journey, please tap out at the same station within one hour of tapping in.
