Description
Storm Amy is expected to bring high winds and heavy rain to parts of Scotland and North West England from Friday (3 October) evening, with the potential for widespread disruption to rail services. An amber weather warning is in place from 17:00 tomorrow until 09:00 on Saturday 4 October, and across some areas after Saturday.
Network Rail’s specialist weather team is closely monitoring the storm’s path and working with operators to confirm which routes are most likely to be impacted.
Avanti West Coast customer advice:
It is advised you do not travel North of Preston after 17:00 Friday 3 October and all day Saturday 4 October.
Tickets for travel on Friday 3 and Saturday 4 October will be valid all day Friday to allow you to travel earlier in the day.
If your train is cancelled or you are unable to complete your journey, you can apply for a refund from your point of purchase
TransPennine Express customer advice:
Services on the following routes are subject to delay and short notice cancellation in both directions between:
Manchester Airport and Glasgow Central / Edinburgh
Liverpool Lime Street and Glasgow Central
Even though there may be some trains running, there is no guarantee that they will reach their destination.
There will be no rail replacement buses running between these locations.
If you are travelling on Friday 3 October:
It is strongly advised you do not to travel in both directions between:
Preston and Edinburgh after 12:00
Preston and Glasgow Central after 17:00
If you are travelling on Saturday 4 October:
It is strongly advised you do not to travel between Preston and Glasgow Central / Edinburgh all day.
If you have purchased a TransPennine Express ticket and your journey is affected by this disruption:
Tickets dated Friday 3 October can be used to travel, between Preston and Edinburgh, before 12:00 on the same day at no extra cost
Tickets dated Friday 3 October can be used to travel, between Preston and Glasgow, before 17:00 on the same day at no extra cost
Tickets dated Friday 3 or Saturday 4 October can also be used to travel on TransPennine Express services on Sunday 5 October at no extra cost
