Description

The Met Office have issued yellow and amber weather warnings covering across England, Wales and Scotland as Storm Bram is forecast to bring strong winds and heavy rain today.

Avanti West Coast strongly advise you check your journey before travelling as significant disruption is expected on the rail network, particularly north of Preston.

Current disruptions:

Preston and Scotland

Avanti West Coast are running a reduced timetable north of Preston further to speed restrictions applied by Network Rail. Fewer trains will run and journeys will take longer. There is then a risk of further disruption on the rail network due to this extreme weather.

If you are travelling north of Preston you can use your tickets for today (Tuesday 9 December) anytime on this route. If you are booked to travel today you can also use your tickets tomorrow (Wednesday 10 December), at no extra cost.

Your ticket can be used at no extra cost on TransPennine Express services between Preston and Glasgow Central / Edinburgh .

Carlisle and Motherwell

Due to forecasted weather for the remainder of the day, customers travelling north of Preston can use their tickets for today (9 December) anytime on this route.

Customers booked to travel today can also use their tickets tomorrow (Wednesday 10 December).

Your ticket can be used at no extra cost on the following services:

  • TransPennine Express services between Preston and Glasgow Central, in both directions until further notice

  • ScotRail services between Glasgow Central and Edinburgh in both directions from now until 20:00

  • Northern services between Carlisle and Newcastle in both directions until further notice

  • LNER services between Edinburgh and London Kings Cross in both directions until further notice

  • CrossCountry services between Edinburgh and Birmingham New Street in both directions until further notice

Customer advice:

If your train is cancelled, your ticket is valid on one of the two Avanti West Coast services immediately before your booked train, or one of the two immediately after.

Check before you travel:

You can check your journey using the National Rail Enquiries real-time Journey Planner.

Please take note of any Service Updates that may be showing with a warning triangle on your journey.

Compensation:
