Description

The Met Office have issued yellow weather warnings for snow and ice which cover the Northern network. These will be in place until the end of the day.

Storm Goretti brought ice, strong winds and snow to parts of England and Wales. The amber weather warning has now ended, however, the severe weather will continue throughout today.

You are strongly advised to check your journey in full on either of the affected days, and check our Status and Disruptions page if your journey involves travel with other train operators.

Please be aware that across the network, trains that do run may be delayed, cancelled or altered at late notice due to the severe weather.

Advice for Northern customers:

The following routes are suspended. Where possible, they will reopen before the end of the day. We will update this page with information as soon as it is known:

  • Between Hazel Grove and Buxton

  • Between New Mills Central and Sheffield (a reduced service is running between Manchester Piccadilly and New Mills Central via Bredbury)

You cannot travel on the above routes. There are no trains or replacement buses operating.

If you wish to travel on the above closed routes and your ticket is dated today, it can be used on services tomorrow, 10 January, at no extra cost.

The following routes are returning to normal:

  • Between Huddersfield and Barnsley - services have resumed running, trains may be delayed by up to 30 minutes whilst the timetable is reinstated

  • Between Manchester Piccadilly and Glossop / Hadfield - services are running normally

Ticket acceptance:

Customers who were unable to travel due to the severe weather with tickets dated Thursday 8 or Friday 9 January can use their ticket up to and including Monday 12 January. Additionally, refunds will be available for anyone who decides not to travel.

Northern customers are also able to use their tickets at no extra cost on Bee Network buses on the below routes until the end of the day today:

  • 237 service between Ashton-Under-Lyne - Stalybridge - Hadfield - Glossop

  • 341 service: Hyde - Hattersley - Broadbottom - Charlseworth - Glossop on

You can travel to Hyde Central using the Rose Hill Marple train and take the 341 bus from there towards Glossop.

For passengers using the Bee Network to travel to to Hadfield, the closest the 237 service can get to Hadfield station is Hollingworth. This is due to roadworks taking place in Tintwistle.

Check before you travel:

You can check your journey using the National Rail Enquiries real-time Journey Planner.

Compensation:

You may be entitled to compensation if you experience a delay in completing your journey. Please keep your train ticket and make a note of your journey, as both will be required to support any claim.
