Description

Overrunning engineering works at Swinton (South Yorkshire) means fewer trains are able to run on all lines. As a result, trains running between Sheffield / Leeds and Doncaster may be cancelled or delayed by up to 20 minutes.

This is expected until 08:30.

Customer Advice:

Northern train ticket restrictions have been lifted in the affected areas, including Advance and Peak restrictions, during this disruption. Restrictions will be reinstated once the disruption ends.

To further assist you with your journey, you can use your ticket to travel on Sheffield Supertram services between Rotherham Central and Sheffield and on CrossCountry services between Sheffield and Wakefield, at no extra cost.

Road replacement transport:

Road transport is currently being sourced to operate between Meadowhall and Wakefield Westgate via Moorthorpe. Once operator have been confirmed, services will be advertised.

Effect on service:

This incident will affect trains which operate along the following routes:

  • Sheffield - Scarborough services will not be affected

  • Sheffield towards Adwick services will be diverted and will not call at Swinton South Yorkshire

  • Adwick towards Sheffield services will run as normal

  • Leeds - Sheffield via Moorthorpe. These services will divert via Barnsley and will not call at Rotherham Central, Swinton South Yorkshire, Bolton on Dearne, Goldthorpe, Thurnscoe, Moorthorpe, Fitzwilliam or Sandal & Agbrigg

First services affected:

The 05:38 Northern service from Sheffield to Leeds via Moorthorpe was diverted via Barnsley.

Alternative travel suggestions:

Passengers at Swinton requiring Doncaster and beyond should use Mexborough where possible as an alternative.

Passengers requiring Leeds should travel to Meadowhall where your tickets will be valid for Leeds services. You can also change at Wakefield Westgate for services to Sandal & Agbrigg, Fitzwilliam, Moorthorpe, Thurnscoe, Goldthorpe, Bolton-upon-Dearne and Swinton.
