Hot weather will impact Transport for Wales services on Wednesday 12 and Thursday 13 August

Description

The Met Office are forecasting that temperatures will be above average for the time of year this week, with another heatwave anticipated across England and Wales.

Some areas, particularly in southern England and Wales, may see temperatures peaking as high as 38°C midweek. An amber weather warning is in place for extreme heat across parts of central England for Thursday.

This will disrupt routes operated by Transport for Wales.

Please check before you travel and allow more time for your journey.

Wednesday 12 August:

Between Manchester Piccadilly and Cardiff Central

Some services between Manchester Piccadilly and Cardiff Central will be cancelled.

Between Llandudno / Llandudno Junction and Blaenau Ffestiniog

No trains will run on the Conwy Valley line. Rail replacement transport will run in place of cancelled services. These will be operated by Llew Jones and run at the following times:

• From Llandudno Junction to Blaenau Ffestiniog at 05:15

• From Llandudno to Blaenau Ffestiniog at 07:50, 10:10, 13:10, 16:10, 19:10

• From Blaenau Ffestiniog to Llandudno at 06:20, 08:40, 11:40, 14:40, 17:40, 20:40

Between Shrewsbury and Birmingham International

There will no Transport for Wales services running between Shrewsbury and Birmingham International. You can use your ticket at no extra cost on West Midlands Railway services between these stations.

Between Shrewsbury and Aberystwyth

Some services between Shrewsbury and Aberystwyth will be cancelled.

Between Cheltenham Spa and Cardiff Central

Some services between Cheltenham Spa and Cardiff Central will be cancelled.

Thursday 13 August:

It is not yet known how Transport for Wales will be affected on Thursday 13 August. Please check back later.

Advice if you are travelling in the hot weather:

The forecast weather may cause trains to be disrupted. Heat can cause overhead lines to expand and sag, line-side fires and also rails to buckle. Speed restrictions may be in place which can cause delays and cancellations.

Please also carry water with you - you can find water refill stations at all Network Rail managed stations and at some other larger stations.

If you feel unwell at the station, please don't board a train, please seek assistance from station staff or use the help point.
