Description

A train has hit an obstruction in the Thetford area, developing a fault as a result. The line from Ely towards Norwich is blocked.

Services may be cancelled, revised or delayed by up to 60 minutes.

Disruption is expected until the end of the day.

What has happened?

Due to this train hitting an obstruction on the line at Thetford, trains are being disrupted on the Liverpool Lime Street, Nottingham, and Norwich route

Staff are going to investigate the problem and are estimated to be on site by 20:30.

How does this affect my train?

Trains running through the area in both directions cannot run between Ely and Norwich. Disruption is expected to continue for the remainder of today.

How do I get where I need to be?

You should continue to travel as originally planned however your journey may be delayed by up to 60 minutes.

You can travel with your existing tickets on the following services at no extra cost:

• CrossCountry between Leicester and Ely

• Greater Anglia between Ely and Norwich (please note Greater Anglia are also disrupted)

• LNER between Grantham and Peterborough

The following rail replacement buses have been sourced to help keep you on the move:

• 20:45 Peterborough to Derby

• 21:45 Ely to Derby

If you are travelling from Norwich, you are advised to use the station help points or contact the EMR team by X or via WhatsApp for further assistance.

Greater Anglia customer advice:

Trains are unable to run from Ely towards Norwich.

Please be prepared for a delay to your journey. Unfortunately, Greater Anglia have been unable to source any replacement buses.

From Cambridge and Ely, you can use your ticket at no extra cost to travel on alternative Greater Anglia services that run via Bury St Edmunds and Stowmarket.

Advance purchase tickets holders will be allowed to travel on earlier or later trains if their booked service is cancelled.

Additional information:

A train has sustained damage after hitting multiple deer in the Thetford area, blocking the line towards Norwich.

Train engineers, Network Rail response staff, and British Transport Police are en route to work on getting the line reopen as soon as possible, but we currently have no estimate for when this will be.
