Description

A fire between Swinton (South Yorkshire) and Pontefract Baghill / Wakefield Westgate means that all lines are blocked. As a result, trains running between these stations may be cancelled, delayed by up to 20 minutes, revised or diverted.

Disruption is expected until 19:15.

CrossCountry customer advice:

Trains may be diverted via Doncaster.

If your CrossCountry train is cancelled, you may use your ticket on the two CrossCountry train services operating before or the two CrossCountry train services after your cancelled service.

Alternatively, you may use your ticket on the following services and routes at no extra cost:

  • Northern services between Sheffield and Leeds via Wakefield Kirkgate, and between Wakefield Westgate and Leeds, and also between between Leeds and York

  • Transpennine Express services between Leeds and York

You do not need to amend your ticket to use it on these services.

How does this affect my journey?

Trains may be diverted via Barnsley.

Train services are unable to run between Swinton (South Yorkshire) and Moorthorpe (in both directions).

Northern services between Sheffield and Leeds via Barnsley are not affected.

What should I do?

You can travel on the next Northern service to your destination, where available.

Customers may use TransPennine Express services services between Sheffield and Doncaster (in both directions) at no extra cost. Customers can then connect with alternative Northern services between Doncaster and Leeds, which serve Sandal & Agbrigg and Fitzwilliam.

Northern train ticket restrictions have been lifted in the affected areas, including Advance and Peak restrictions, during this disruption. Restrictions will be reinstated once the disruption ends.

Road transport:

Road transport has been recruited to run as follows:

  • 16:25 from Meadowhall to York calling at all stations. Two 16-seater minibuses operated by Elite

  • 17:10 from Wakefield Westgate to Meadowhall calling at all stations. One full size coach operated by Calder Coaches

  • 17:15 from York to Meadowhall calling at all stations. One full size coach operated by J&B Travel

  • 17:30 from Meadowhall to Wakefield Westgate calling at all stations. One full size coach operated by Solomon Travel

Please check station information posters for the location of the bus pick up points and be advised that bicycles, e-bikes and dogs (except for service dogs) are not permitted on replacement road transport.

Journey times may be extended whilst travelling by road transport.
