Description

A landslip in the Wakefield Westgate area means some lines are blocked. As a result, trains through this station may be cancelled, delayed by up to 60 minutes or revised.

Major disruption is expected until the end of the day.

LNER customer advice:

Rail replacement transport will be in operation between Doncaster and Leeds via Wakefield Westgate, and also between York and Leeds.

You can use your ticket on the following train companies at no extra cost:

  • TransPennine Express between Manchester, Leeds and York/Newcastle.

  • Northern between Carlisle and Newcastle.

  • CrossCountry between Sheffield/Doncaster, York and Newcastle/Edinburgh

Your ticket can be used at no extra cost on alternative train services, up to 2 hours before or after the cancelled service or on either of the two LNER services before or after this train, whichever is most appropriate to help you to complete your journey.

Customers who defer their travel today, Sunday 15 February can use their ticket with no extra cost on Monday 16 February.

How does this affect my journey?

Train services are unable to run between Wakefield Westgate and Fitzwilliam (in both directions).

Services on the following routes will/may be affected by this disruption:

  • Between Leeds and Doncaster - Services will be amended to run between Leeds and Wakefield Westgate (in both directions) or cancelled

  • Stopper services between Leeds and Sheffield via Moorthorpe - Services will be amended to run between Moorthorpe and Sheffield (in both directions) or cancelled

  • Express services between Leeds and Sheffield via Wakefield Westgate and Moorthorpe - Services will continue to call at all booked stations; however, these trains trains will diverted via Barnsley and may be subject to delays



Northern services on the following routes are NOT affected:

  • Between Leeds and Sheffield via Barnsley

  • Between Leeds and Knottingley


What should I do?

You can travel on the next Northern service to your destination, where available.

You can also travel on the following train operators and routes at no extra cost:

  • LNER services on reasonable routes

  • TransPennine Express services between Leeds and York, and also between Doncaster and Sheffield


Please note that other train operators may also be affected by disruption – please check your whole journey before travelling.

Northern train ticket restrictions have been lifted in the affected areas, including Advance and Peak restrictions, during this disruption. Restrictions will be reinstated once the disruption ends.

Road transport:

Road transport has been requested. More information will be provided once operators and times have been confirmed.

Road transport has been confirmed to run as follows:

  • 08:45 from Wakefield Westgate to Doncaster - One full size bus operated by Ross Travel

  • 09:00 from Doncaster to Wakefield Westgate - One full size bus operated by Ross Travel

  • 09:35 from Wakefield Westgate to Moorthorpe - One full size bus operated by J&B

Please check station information posters for the location of the bus pick up points and be advised that bicycles, e-bikes and dogs (except for service dogs) are not permitted on replacement road transport.

Journey times will be extended whilst travelling by road transport.
