Changes to train times

 

Greater Anglia services during Christmas and New Year 2019/20

Please find below a day-by-day summary of the services that Greater Anglia will be running over the Christmas and New Year Bank Holiday period.

Monday 23 December

 

A normal service is expected to run.

Tuesday 24 December

 

All Greater Anglia train services (excluding Stansted Express services) will finish earlier than normal on Christmas Eve.

The last services will finish by around 22:00. Stansted Express services will continue until around midnight.

Wednesday 25 December

 

No service.

Thursday 26 December

 

No Greater Anglia train services will operate on Boxing Day, except Stansted Express services.

Due to structure examinations and track renewal work at Bethnal Green, Stansted Express services will operate between Stansted Airport and Tottenham Hale only.

Passengers for central London should use Victoria Line tube services from Tottenham Hale.

Friday 27 December

 

Due to track renewal work at Bethnal Green, two lines will be closed between London Liverpool Street and Hackney Downs. As a result of the reduced track capacity, Greater Anglia West Anglia services will depart London Liverpool Street several minutes earlier than the standard timetable.

Due to overhead line renewal work in the Wickford area, buses will replace trains between Shenfield and Southend Victoria, and between Wickford and Southminster all day.

Due to overhead line work between Stratford and Shenfield, only two of four lines will be in operation between these locations. As a result, journey times on the route will be extended by up to ten minutes compared to a normal Friday service.

Due to the renewal of points at Colchester, a limited train service will operate through Colchester as follows.

  • London Liverpool Street to Norwich services will run once per hour and will not stop at Colchester
  • London Liverpool Street to Clacton-on-Sea services will run once per hour
  • London Liverpool Street to Ipswich services will run once per hour
  • London Liverpool Street to Witham services will run twice per hour
  • Braintree trains will operate as a shuttle service between Witham and Braintree
  • Marks Tey to Sudbury services have been re-timed
  • Harwich trains will operate as a shuttle service between Harwich and Manningtree
  • Colchester to Colchester Town and Walton-on-the-Naze services have been re-timed

Saturday 28 December

 

Due to track renewal work at Bethnal Green, two lines will be closed between London Liverpool Street and Hackney Downs. As a result of reduced track capacity, Greater Anglia West Anglia services will depart London Liverpool Street several minutes earlier than the standard timetable.

Due to overhead line work between Stratford and Ingatestone, all lines will be closed between these locations. Clacton, Ipswich and Norwich services will operate to / from Ingatestone, with rail replacement buses operating between Ingatestone and Newbury Park Central Line tube station. Your ticket will be accepted on the Central Line between Newbury Park and Stratford / London Liverpool Street.

Due to overhead line work, buses will replace trains between Southend Victoria and Newbury Park Central Line tube station all day. Your ticket will be accepted on the Central Line between Newbury Park and Stratford / London Liverpool Street. Buses will also replace trains between Southminster and Wickford all day.

Due to the renewal of points at Colchester, a limited train service will operate through Colchester. Clacton-on-Sea, Walton-on-the-Naze and some Norwich / Ipswich services may start from and terminate at Colchester. Passengers travelling to / from London may therefore have to change trains at Colchester.

 

Sunday 29 December

Due to the renewal of points at Colchester, a limited train service will operate through Colchester. Passengers travelling to / from London may therefore have to change trains at Colchester.

Tuesday 31 December

 

Due to the renewal of points at Colchester, a limited train service will operate through Colchester. Clacton-on-Sea, Walton-on-the-Naze and some Norwich / Ipswich services may start from and terminate at Colchester. Passengers travelling to / from London may therefore have to change trains at Colchester.

Due to overhead line work in the Wickford area, buses will replace trains between Shenfield and Southend Victoria, and between Wickford and Southminster all day.

Wednesday 1 January 2020

 

On New Years Day all Greater Anglia train services will operate to a Sunday service, subject to the engineering work detailed below.

Due to the renewal of points at Colchester, all lines will be closed through the station. The following changes will apply:

  • Between Norwich / Ipswich and London buses will replace trains between Ipswich and Marks Tey.
  • Clacton-on-Sea and Walton-on-the-Naze services will start from / terminate at Colchester Town. Buses will replace trains between Hythe and Marks Tey for passengers travelling to / from London.
  • Passengers travelling to / from stations on the Harwich branch to / from London will have a rail replacement bus service between Marks Tey and Manningtree.

Due to overhead line work in the Wickford area, buses will replace trains between Shenfield and Southend Victoria, and between Wickford and Southminster all day.
