Changes to train times

 

ScotRail services during Christmas and New Year 2019/20

Please find below a day-by-day summary of the services that ScotRail will be running over the Christmas and New Year Bank Holiday period.

Monday 23 December

 

Information will be published when available

Tuesday 24 December

 

Trains will run as normal until approximately 20:00, then will close down early. Please check your train time, especially if making a longer distance journey.

Wednesday 25 December

 

No service.

Thursday 26 December

 

A revised timetable with reduced train frequency will be in operation on a select number of routes, with the start of service commencing at approximately 09:00.

The following services will operate only:

  • Glasgow Central - Ayr / Ardrossan Harbour / Largs / Gourock / Wemyss Bay / Paisley Canal / Newton / Neilston / East Kilbride / Kilmarnock / Stranraer / Shotts / Lanark / Cumbernauld / Croy / Anniesland 
  • Kilmarnock - Girvan
  • Milngavie - Cumbernauld / Motherwell
  • Dalmuir - Motherwell (via Yoker & Whifflet) / Whifflet (via Yoker) / Larkhall (via Singer) / Cumbernauld (via Yoker)
  • Larkhall - Milngavie
  • Balloch - Airdrie (via Singer)
  • Dumbarton Central - Springburn
  • Helensburgh Central - Bathgate (via Singer)

Please note, the following services will not be in operation:
  • Milngavie - Edinburgh
  • Glasgow Central - Barrhead 
  • Cathcart Circle


Friday 27 December

 

Major engineering work is taking place at Haymarket, closing most lines between Edinburgh and Haymarket.

Replacement buses will be in operation on the following routes:

  • Edinburgh and Linlithgow - (trains will run Linlithgow to Glasgow Queen Street)
  • Edinburgh and Falkirk Grahamston - (trains will run Falkirk Grahamston to Glasgow Queen Street)
  • Edinburgh and Dalgety Bay
  • Edinburgh and Haymarket
  • Edinburgh and Bathgate - (trains will run Bathgate to Helensburgh / Milngavie)
  • Edinburgh and West Calder - (trains will run West Calder to Glasgow Central)

A revised 'Fife Circle' service will operate between Perth / Dundee / Arbroath and Dalgety Bay.

Some of the first and last services will operate on routes between Edinburgh and Perth / Dundee / Arbroath, however, they will not run between Edinburgh and Haymarket.

Long distance trains between Edinburgh and Aberdeen / Inverness will also not run between Edinburgh and Haymarket.

Trains which run between Edinburgh and Glasgow Central via Carstairs will be cancelled.

Saturday 28 December

 

Major engineering work is taking place at Haymarket, closing most lines between Edinburgh and Haymarket.

Until approximately 10:00, an amended service will run on routes between Edinburgh and Dundee / Aberdeen / Inverness / Glasgow Queen Street / Dunblane / Helensburgh Central.

Replacement buses will be in operation on the following routes:

  • Edinburgh and Dalmeny
  • Edinburgh and Dalgety Bay
  • Edinburgh and Linlithgow
  • Edinburgh and Bathgate
  • Edinburgh and Haymarket

Monday 30 December

 

Normal service.

Tuesday 31 December

 

Trains will run as normal until approximately 20:00, then will close down early. Please check your train time, especially if making a longer distance journey.

Wednesday 1 January 2020

 

No service on New Years Day.

Thursday 2 January

 

Public Holiday in Scotland.

Revised service, with a later than normal start.
