Changes to train times

 

South Western Railway services during Christmas and New Year 2019/20

Please find below a day-by-day summary of the services that South Western Railway will be running over the Christmas and New Year Bank Holiday period.

Monday 23 December

 

Normal service.

Tuesday 24 December

 

Trains between London Waterloo and Reading will be busier than normal. This is because the lines between Slough and London Paddington will be closed all day, and buses will replace trains between Reading, Slough and London Paddington.

South Western Railway will be running extra trains between London Waterloo and Reading. An altered timetable will run on this route all day.

The network will shut down completely from late evening. If you are planning to travel on Tuesday evening, please check to make sure your journey will be possible.

Wednesday 25 December

 

No service.

Thursday 26 December

 

No service.

Friday 27 December

 

A Saturday timetable will operate.

Some services will be cancelled or altered early Friday morning following the Christmas shut down. Please check before travelling.

Trains between London Waterloo and Reading will be busier than normal. This is because the lines between Slough and London Paddington will be closed all day, and buses will replace trains between Reading, Slough and London Paddington. South Western Railway will be running extra trains between London Waterloo and Reading. An altered timetable will run on this route all day.

All lines in the Salisbury area will be closed all day for bridge repairs. Buses will replace trains between Andover and Gillingham, also between Salisbury and Romsey. This work will also affect Great Western Railway services.

Most of Guildford station and the lines from there to Woking, Haslemere and Aldershot will be closed for maintenance and repair work. There will be a limited train service to Guildford via Effingham Junction. Buses will replace trains on the other routes from Guildford. This work will also affect Great Western Railway services due to pass through Guildford.

Saturday 28 December

 

The normal Saturday timetable will run, except as altered for engineering work.

Most of Guildford station and the lines from there to Woking, Haslemere and Aldershot will be closed for maintenance and repair work. There will be a limited train service to Guildford via Effingham Junction. Buses will replace trains on the other routes from Guildford. This work will also affect Great Western Railway services due to pass through Guildford.

Services between Reading and London Waterloo will be busier than normal. This is because a reduced train service will be running in and out of London Paddington.

Sunday 29 December

 

The normal Sunday timetable will run, except as altered for engineering work.

Most of Guildford station and the lines from there to Woking, Haslemere and Aldershot will be closed for maintenance and repair work. There will be a limited train service to Guildford via Effingham Junction. Buses will replace trains on the other routes from Guildford. This work will also affect Great Western Railway services due to pass through Guildford.

Some lines between London Waterloo and Clapham Junction will be closed until late morning. During this time a reduced train service will run to and from London Waterloo. Some trains will terminate at / start from stations away from London Waterloo. Other trains may be diverted via an alternative route with longer journey times.

Services between Reading and London Waterloo will be busier than normal. This is because a reduced train service will run in and out of London Paddington.

Monday 30 December

 

The Saturday timetable will operate. There may be some alterations to train times early Monday morning to fit in with other operators running a different service pattern.

Most of Guildford station and the lines from there to Woking, Haslemere and Aldershot will be closed for maintenance and repair work. There will be a limited train service to Guildford via Effingham Junction. Buses will replace trains on the other routes from Guildford. This work will also affect Great Western Railway services due to pass through Guildford.

Services between Reading and London Waterloo will be busier than normal. This is because a reduced train service will run in and out of London Paddington.

Tuesday 31 December

 

The Saturday timetable will operate. There may be some alterations to train times early Tuesday morning to fit in with other operators running a different service pattern.

A special train service will run overnight Tuesday 31 December / Wednesday 1 January for those travelling home from the New Year celebrations in Central London.

After the New Year celebration train service has ended, the Sunday timetable will operate.
