Buses replace trains between Reading and Bedwyn / Basingstoke from 14:05 Saturday 09 and all day Sunday 10 June

Cross Country between Glasgow Central / Edinburgh and Bournemouth

Great Western Railway between London Paddington and Plymouth / Penzance / Bedwyn / Newbury / Reading and also between Reading and Basingstoke

Engineering work, to improve infrastructure to support new and more frequent trains, is taking place between Reading and Bedwyn / Reading West, closing various lines.


Trains are diverted between Reading and Southampton Central via Guildford (not calling) extending journey times by up to 60 minutes. Trains will not call at Basingstoke, Winchester or Southampton Parkway.

Replacement buses will run between Reading and Winchester.

Great Western Railway

Trains between London Paddington and Plymouth / Penzance (routed via Newbury) will be diverted either between Reading and Westbury (via Melksham NOT calling) or between Reading and Taunton via Bristol Temple Meads (NOT calling). Some trains between Swindon and Westbury will operate between to revised timings.

Services between Reading and Basingstoke will not run between 13:30 and 14:15.

Please note that until 17:00, trains will depart London Paddington and Reading up to 35 minutes earlier than usual.

Buses will operate as below:

Until 21:00 on Saturday and all day Sunday

  • Between Reading and Newbury (direct, taking approximately 45 minutes)
  • Between Reading and Bedwyn, calling at Theale, Thatcham, Newbury, Kintbury and Hungerford
  • Between Reading and Newbury, calling at all stations

After 21:00 Saturday and all day Sunday
  • Between Reading and Bedwyn, calling at all stations
Buses will also run between Reading and Basingstoke (direct, taking approximately 38 minutes), from 14:05 on Saturday and all day on Sunday.
