Changes to train times

Leaf Fall Timetable Changes 2019

Thousands of tonnes of leaves fall onto railway lines every autumn. When leaves fall, they stick to damp rails, and passing trains compress them into a smooth, slippery, layer that reduces the trains’ grip. Network Rail have published an explanatory page on the impact of leaf fall, which is available here.

To keep passengers safe in the worst affected areas, longer gaps need to be left between trains, causing delays on the railway. The Train Operating Companies affected by leaf fall publish temporary timetables so you can plan your journey.
