Merseyrail between Chester and Liverpool Central

Platform upgrade work will be taking place at all stations between Chester and Hooton, closing all lines.

Buses will replace trains between Chester and Hooton, connecting into onward train services.

There will be timetable alterations for trains to and from Hooton and on the Ellesmere Port line. Six car trains will run where possible and there is free car parking at many Merseyrail stations, including 109 spaces at Ellesmere Port.

If you are travelling to or from Capenhurst station there will be a 30 minute rail replacement bus service.

Project Information:

This project is all about getting the Merseyrail network ready for the arrival of new modern trains. They will be faster, safer, more comfortable than ever, and able to carry 50% more passengers.

You will benefit from a number of modern features including sliding step technology which will result in unassisted access for all and you will be able to get on and off the trains much more easily. This technology represents a pioneering approach for the UK. Merseyrail need to do some work to the platforms before the new trains arrive and in readiness for the sliding step.
