Changes to train times

 

Easter Travel Summary 2020

This information is subject to change due to the Coronavirus outbreak. Please continue to check the latest travel advice.

If you are travelling over the Easter weekend (from Friday 10 to Monday 13 April 2020), your journey may be affected by planned engineering work.

Some train companies may also be making changes to their usual timetable and some train times to match services to the number of customers travelling.

Below is a summary of the service that each train company will be running. Please choose the company you will be travelling with from the list:

Avanti West Coast

 

Friday 10 to Monday 13 April

A revised timetable will operate to / from London Euston

Saturday 11 to Monday 13 April

Engineering work is taking place between Lockerbie and Motherwell, closing all lines. 

There will be no Avanti West Coast trains between Wigan North Western and Glasgow Central / Edinburgh via Lockerbie and also between Carlisle and Edinburgh / Glasgow Central via Carstairs.

Replacement buses will run between Wigan North Western and Preston and between Carlisle and Glasgow Central.

Customers should use TransPennine Express trains between Preston and Carlisle and replacement buses between Carlisle and Edinburgh / Glasgow Central.

A very limited number of trains will run between Carlisle and Glasgow Central via Dumfries.

 

Engineering work in the Wolverhampton area means that buses will replace trains between Wolverhampton and Stafford.

Engineering work taking place in the Liverpool Lime Street area means that trains will be unable to call at Runcorn. Customers travelling to / from Runcorn may use the following alternatives:

 

  • Avanti West Coast / Transport for Wales trains between Crewe and Chester
  • Transport for Wales replacement buses between Chester and Liverpool South Parkway
  • Merseyrail between Liverpool South Parkway and Liverpool.

 

No trains will run between Wigan North Western and Preston.

Trains between London Euston and Liverpool Lime Street will be diverted to run via but not calling at Warrington Bank Quay and Huyton.

Sunday 12 April

There will be no direct trains between London Euston and Chester / Liverpool Lime Street. Customers travelling to / from Liverpool Lime Street may use the following alternatives:

 

  • Avanti West Coast / Transport for Wales trains between Crewe and Chester
  • Transport for Wales replacement buses between Chester and Liverpool South Parkway
  • Merseyrail between Liverpool South Parkway and Liverpool.

Friday 10 to Monday 13 April

Trains will not run between Barking and London Fenchurch Street and will instead be diverted to start from / terminate at London Liverpool Street, calling additionally at Stratford. There will be no service at Barking until after 07:00.

Trains will not run between Barking and Grays via Rainham. Buses will run between Upminster and Grays, calling at Rainham and Purfleet.

To help complete your journey, your ticket will be accepted on the following services:

Friday 10 and Monday 13 April

An amended Sunday service will run on Good Friday and Easter Monday.

Sunday 12 and Monday 13 April

Buses will replace trains between Grays and Pitsea.

Caledonian Sleeper

 

Friday 10 April

Engineering work is taking place across the Caledonian Sleeper network, closing various lines.

As a result of this, sleeper services on Friday 10 April will be diverted via the East Coast Mainline and therefore are unable to call at Watford Junction, Crewe, Preston and Carlisle.

The London Euston to Glasgow Central service will also be diverted via Shotts and Mount Florida and will be unable to call at Carstairs and Motherwell.

Sunday 12 April

The 21:45 Glasgow Central to London Euston and the 21:34 London Euston to Glasgow Central services will be diverted away from their normal route, and will be subject to revised departure / arrival times at Glasgow Central.

Monday 13 April

All Caledonian Sleeper services between London and Scotland will be diverted on alternative routes between London and Scotland, and will not call at Watford Junction, Crewe, Preston or Carlisle.

Chiltern Railways

 

Friday 10 April (Good Friday) – An amended Saturday service will operate.

Saturday 11 and Sunday 12 April - A normal weekend timetable will operate.

Monday 13 April (Easter Monday) – An amended Saturday service will operate.

CrossCountry

 

Friday 10 to Sunday 19 April

Trains will not run between Reading and Guildford. Customers travelling between Reading and Guildford should use Great Western Railway services to complete their journey.

Saturday 11 to Monday 13 April

Trains will divert and will not call at Wolverhampton. A rail replacement bus service will operate between Wolverhampton and Stafford.

Saturday 11 and Sunday 12 April

Replacement buses will run between Edinburgh and Motherwell.

Monday 13 April

Replacement buses will run between Motherwell and Glasgow Central.

East Midlands Railway

 
Saturday 11 and Sunday 12 April

Buses will replace trains between Corby and Kettering.

Saturday 11 April

Buses will replace trains between Market Harborough and Bedford.

Sunday 12 April

Trains will not run between Warrington Central and Liverpool Lime Street. A direct bus service will run between Warrington Central and Liverpool Lime Street.

Buses will replace trains between Market Harborough and Luton.

Monday 13 April

Trains will be diverted between Manchester Piccadilly and Liverpool Lime Street via and calling additionally at Newton-le-Willows. Buses will run between Newton-le-Willows and Widnes calling at Warrington Central to connect with the trains.


Gatwick Express

 

 

Friday 10, Saturday 11 and Monday 13 April

An amended service is running across the network.

Sunday 12 April

From 23:55 Saturday to 06:00 Sunday morning, there will be no Gatwick Express services.

Customers should use Southern trains to complete their journey.

Grand Central

 

On Sunday 12 April, the 09:50 London Kings Cross to Sunderland service will be retimed to run later than usual. All other Grand Central services will run as normal.

Great Northern

 

Friday 10 to Monday 13 April

Engineering work is taking place between Ely and Kings Lynn closing all lines all day Friday to Sunday and until 05:30 Monday morning. Then from 22:45 until the end of service Monday night.

Buses replace trains between Ely and Kings Lynn.

An amended service will operate across the area.

Saturday 11 and Sunday 12 April

Engineering work is taking place between Finsbury Park and Moorgate, closing all lines.

As a result of this, there will be no trains between Finsbury Park and Moorgate.

Services that usually run to Moorgate will instead be diverted to / from London Kings Cross.

Customers may use London Buses and London Underground services between Moorgate and Finsbury Park

Engineering work is taking place between Alexandra Palace and Stevenage via Hertford North closing the line.

Buses will replace trains between Alexandra Palace and Stevenage via Hertford North.

On Monday, additional trains will run between Moorgate and Finsbury Park.

Monday 13 April

An amended service will operate across the Great Northern network.

Great Western Railway

 

Friday 10 until Friday 17 April

Engineering work is taking place in the Guildford area from Friday 10 to Friday 17 April. 

All week, including over the Easter bank holiday weekend, trains will run to an amended timetable between Reading and Ash.

Buses will run between North Camp and Redhill / Gatwick Airport, calling at Guildford.

Friday 10 April  - An amended Friday service will run. The train service on some routes will start later than usual and some trains will be amended to start from a different station than usual. 

Saturday 11 April - An amended Saturday service will run on some routes.

Sunday 12 April  - An amended Sunday service will run on some routes.

Monday 13 April  - An amended Monday service will run. The train service on some routes will start later than usual and some trains will be amended to start from a different station than usual.

 

Greater Anglia

 

Friday 10 April

A Saturday service will operate on all Greater Anglia routes, with minor retimings.

Sunday 12 April

Buses will replace trains between Brundall and Reedham.

Sunday 12 April and Monday 13 April

Buses replace trains between:

  • Colchester and Clacton-on-Sea.
  • Colchester and Walton-on-the-Naze.
  • Colchester and Harwich Town.
  • Colchester and Ipswich.

 

Monday 13 April

A Saturday service will run on the Greater Anglia route between London Liverpool Street / Stratford and Hertford East / Stansted Airport / Cambridge, with minor retimings on some services.

A Monday service will operate between Ipswich / Norwich to Cambridge / Peterborough / Sheringham / Great Yarmouth / Lowestoft / Felixstowe, with some minor retimings.

Heathrow Express

 

Friday 10,Saturday 11 and Monday 13 April

A normal service is planned to run

Sunday 12 April

 

Engineering work is taking place between London Paddington and Hayes & Harlington, closing some lines.

As a result, Heathrow Express will be running a reduced half hourly service between London Paddington and Heathrow Airport Terminal 5. These services will also start later than usual, with the fist services of the day running as follows:

 

  • 07:55 London Paddington - Heathrow Airport Terminal 5
  • 07:27 Heathrow Airport Terminal 5 - London Paddington

 

The train shuttle service which run between Heathrow Airport Terminals 2 & 3 and Heathrow Airport Terminal 5 will also be retimed.

Hull Trains

 

Friday 10 April

The 19:08 Hull to London Kings Cross and the 20:30 Kings Cross to Hull services will not operate.

Saturday 11 and Sunday 12 April

Buses will replace trains between Selby and Hull.

Monday 13 April

The 06:04 Beverley to London Kings Cross will not operate and the 07:57 from Beverley will start from Hull, not calling at Beverley or Cottingham.

Island Line

 

Please check back nearer to the time of travel for information on how services will be affected over the Easter Weekend.

LNER

 

Friday 10 April and Monday 13 April

Some services to and from Aberdeen will have amended calling patterns. 

Saturday 11 and Sunday 12 April

Buses will replace trains between Doncaster and Hull.

Saturday 11 to Monday 13 April

LNER services will be unable to run between Edinburgh and Glasgow Central. Customers are advised to use alternative services between Edinburgh and Glasgow.

London Northwestern Railway

 

Friday 10 April

Train services between London Euston and Watford Junction / Tring / Milton Keynes Central / Northampton will operate to a special timetable at a reduced level of frequency.

Trains between Liverpool Lime Street / Rugeley Trent Valley / Birmingham New Street and London Euston will run to a special timetable between Northampton and London Euston.

Train services between London Euston and Crewe (via Nuneaton & Tamworth) will run to an amended timetable between London Euston and Rugby.

Saturday 11 and Monday 13th April

Train services between London Euston and Tring / Milton Keynes Central / Northampton will operate to a special timetable at a reduced level of frequency.

Trains between Birmingham New Street and London Euston will operate to a special timetable between Northampton and London Euston.

Train services between London Euston and Crewe (via Nuneaton & Tamworth) will run to an amended timetable between London Euston and Rugby.

Train services between Crewe & London Euston (via Stoke-on-Trent & Birmingham New Street) will run between Crewe & Stafford (to an amended timetable) and between Birmingham New Street & London Euston only - operating to a special timetable between Northampton & London Euston.

Train services between Birmingham New Street and Liverpool Lime Street will not run. Passengers are advised to travel on other operators services between Birmingham New Street and Stafford / Crewe.

Rail replacement buses will operate between Wolverhampton & Stafford (via Penkridge), between Crewe & Runcorn and between Runcorn & Liverpool South Parkway. Passengers are advised to travel on Merseyrail train services between Liverpool South Parkway and Liverpool Central.

Trains between Liverpool Lime Street & London Euston will run between Birmingham New Street & London Euston only and will operate to a special timetable between Northampton & London Euston.

Train services between Birmingham New Street and Walsall / Rugeley Trent Valley will operate to a special timetable at a reduced level of frequency (to accommodate other operators services which are being diverted along this route.

Sunday 12th April

After 12:00, train services between London Euston and Tring / Milton Keynes Central / Northampton will operate to a special timetable at a reduced level of frequency.

Trains between Birmingham New Street and London Euston will run to a special timetable between Northampton and London Euston.

Train services between London Euston and Crewe (via Nuneaton & Tamworth) will run to an amended timetable between London Euston and Rugby.

Train services between Crewe & Coventry (via Stoke-on-Trent & Birmingham New Street) will run between Crewe & Stafford (to an amended timetable) and between Birmingham New Street & Coventry only.

Train services between Birmingham New Street and Liverpool Lime Street will not run. Passengers are advised to travel on other operators services between Birmingham New Street and Stafford / Crewe.

Rail replacement buses will operate between Wolverhampton & Stafford (via Penkridge), between Crewe & Runcorn and between Runcorn & Liverpool South Parkway. Passengers are advised to travel on Merseyrail train services between Liverpool South Parkway and Liverpool Central.

Trains between Liverpool Lime Street & London Euston will run between Birmingham New Street & London Euston only and will operate to a special timetable between Northampton & London Euston.

 

London Overground

 
Saturday 11 and Monday 13 April

A normal service is expected to run.

Friday 10 April

A Saturday service will operate on the following routes:

  • Clapham Junction / Richmond to Stratford
  • Gospel Oak to Barking
  • London Euston to Watford Junction
  • Liverpool Street to Cheshunt / Chingford / Enfield Town


A weekday service will operate on the following routes:

  • Highbury and Islington to Clapham Junction / Crystal Palace / New Cross / West Croydon
  • Romford to Upminster 

Sunday 12 April

Engineering work is taking place between South Tottenham and Woodgrange Park until 12:10. As a result, trains that usually run between Gospel Oak and Barking will be amended to run between Gospel Oak and South Tottenham only.

Replacement buses will run between Walthamstow Central and Barking.

Customers can use their tickets on the following alternatives: 

 

  • London Buses between South Tottenham and Walthamstow Queens Road 
  • London Underground between Seven Sisters and Walthamstow Central, and also between East Ham and Barking

Merseyrail

 

Friday 10 April (Good Friday)  – A Saturday service will run

Saturday 11 April – A normal service will run

Sunday 12 April (Easter Sunday) – A normal service will run on all lines, except the route between Hunts Cross and Liverpool South Parkway which will be closed until 13:00 due to engineering work.

Monday 13 April (Easter Monday) - A Saturday service will run.

Northern

 

Friday 10 April

A normal service is expected to run.

Saturday 11 and Sunday 12 April

Buses will replace trains between Goole / Selby and Hull.

Saturday 11 until Monday 13 April

Engineering is taking place at several locations between Wigan North Western and Blackpool North / Blackpool South / Barrow-in-Furness / Morecambe / Windermere, closing lines on various days throughout the Easter Bank Holiday period.

Sunday 12 and Monday 13 April

Until 13:00 on Sunday, buses will replace trains between Warrington Central and Liverpool Lime Street. After 13:00 until the end of service on Monday, buses will replace trains between Hunts Cross and Liverpool Lime Street. 

 

ScotRail

 

 

Saturday 11 to Monday 13 April

Edinburgh - Glasgow Central via Shotts:

Trains will be amended to run between Edinburgh and Carfin only. Replacement buses will run between Glasgow Central and Shotts.

Saturday 11 April

Edinburgh - Glasgow Central via Carstairs:

Buses will replace trains between Edinburgh and Glasgow Central via Carstairs.

Saturday 11 and Sunday 12 April

An hourly train service will run between Glasgow Central and Motherwell, not calling at Cambuslang. One bus every two hours will run between Glasgow Central and Lanark, calling at Cambuslang, Uddingston, Bellshill, and all stations between Motherwell and Lanark. A half hourly bus service will run between Motherwell and Lanark.

Monday 13 April

An hourly train service will run between Glasgow Central and Lanark, not calling at Cambuslang, Uddingston, Bellshill and all stations between Motherwell and Lanark. One bus every two hours will run between Glasgow Central and Lanark, calling at Cambuslang, Uddingston, Bellshill, and all stations between Motherwell and Lanark. A half hourly bus service will run between Motherwell and Lanark.

South Western Railway

 

Friday 10 to Monday 13 April 

Buses will replace trains on the following routes:

  • between Clandon and Guildford
  • between Woking and Haslemere
  • between Farnham and Guildford, with some buses on Sunday running between Aldershot and Guildford. (Please note, this will continue until Friday 17 April. Further details can be found here)

Sunday 12 April

Buses will replace trains between Hounslow and Ascot / Staines / Woking.

Southeastern

 

Friday 10, Saturday 11 & Monday 13 April:

Grove Park Line: Buses replace trains between Lewisham and Orpington

Bromley North Line: No trains will run between Grove Park and Bromley North

Paddock Wood Line: Trains between London Charing Cross & Ramsgate / Dover will run from London Victoria instead.

Hastings Line: Trains will be diverted via an alternative route between Orpington and London Bridge, and will be retimed. London Charing Cross to Tunbridge Wells stopping services will not run.

Sidcup Line: Buses replace trains between Lewisham and Sidcup. Trains will run between Sidcup and Dartford.

Bromley South Line: London Victoria to Orpington services will be extended to run to Tonbridge.

Hayes Line: London Cannon Street to Hayes services will not run, London Charing Cross to Hayes services will stop additionally at Lewisham.

Bexleyheath Line: London Charing Cross to Dartford services are retimed, and extended to Gravesend.

Woolwich Line: Trains which run between London Cannon Street and Cannon Street via Woolwich & Sidcup will run between London Cannon Street and Dartford via Woolwich instead.

Ticket Acceptance:

London Underground between Victoria, Charing Cross, Embankment, Waterloo, Southwark, Embankment, & London Bridge.

London bus routes 126, 261 & 314 between Bromley North and Grove Park.

 

 

Sunday 12 April:

Grove Park Line: Buses replace trains between Lewisham and Orpington.

Paddock Wood Line: Trains between London Charing Cross & Ramsgate / Dover will run from London Victoria instead.

Hastings Line: Trains will be diverted via an alternative route between Orpington and London Bridge, and will be retimed.

Sidcup Line: Buses replace trains between Lewisham and Dartford. London Charing Cross to Gravesend via Sidcup services are diverted via Bexleyheath, and extended to Strood. London Cannon Street to London Cannon Street via Sidcup and Woolwich services will run via Bexleyheath instead of Sidcup.

Bromley South Line: London Victoria to Orpington services will be extended to run to Sevenoaks.

Bexleyheath Line: There will be additional services from London Charing Cross and London Cannon Street running on the Bexleyheath Line.

Woolwich Line: Trains which run between London Cannon Street and London Cannon Street via Woolwich & Sidcup will run between London Cannon Street and Dartford via Woolwich instead.

High Speed via Gravesend: Trains will run between London St Pancras International and Rochester only.

Sole Street line: London Victoria to Dover, Canterbury East & Ramsgate services will only run between London Victoria and Rochester. Additional trains will start at Rainham and run to Ramsgate Dover & Canterbury East.

Sheerness Line: Services are re-timed to connect with the altered services between Rainham, Ramsgate, Canterbury East & Dover.

Replacement buses will also run between:

  • Rochester and Rainham
  • Ashford International and Canterbury West (fast and all stations)
  • Canterbury West and Ramsgate calling at all stations
  • Canterbury West and Margate calling at Ramsgate and Broadstairs only
  • Buses will replace trains between Tonbridge and Wadhurst

 

Southern

 

Friday 10, Saturday 11 and Monday 13 April 

An amended service will operate on the Southern network.

Sunday 12 April

Buses will replace trains between Streatham and Epsom and between West Croydon and Sutton / Epsom Downs.

Stansted Express

 

Saturday 11 and Sunday 12 April

A normal service is expected to run.

Friday 10 April and Monday 13 April

A Saturday service will operate between London Liverpool Street / Stratford and Stansted Airport, with minor retimings to some services.

Thameslink

 

Friday 10, Saturday 11 and Monday 13 April

An amended service will operate across the Thameslink network.

Sunday 12 April

  • Buses will replace trains between Bedford and Luton.
  • Trains between Luton / St Albans and Sutton will run between Luton / St Albans and Wimbledon via Tooting only. Customers should use Southern replacement buses between Streatham and Sutton via Mitcham Junction and London buses between Sutton and Wimbledon.
  • Trains will run between Kentish Town and Gravesend. Customers should use Southeastern trains between Gravesend and Rochester and then their replacement buses between Rochester and Rainham.

TfL Rail

 

Friday 10 April

London Paddington - Heathrow T4 / Hayes & Harlington / Reading

TfL Rail will run a Saturday Service on Good Friday with 2 trains per hour running between London and: 

  • Heathrow T4
  • Hayes & Harlington
  • Reading

London Liverpool Street - Shenfield

TfL Rail will run a Saturday Service on Good Friday with 6 trains per hour between London and  Shenfield.

 

Saturday 11 April

A normal service is expected to run.

Sunday 12 April

No TfL Rail services will run before 07:30 to / from London Paddington.

After 07:30, an amended and reduced train service will run. No trains will call at Acton Main Line or West Ealing

Monday 13 April

No TfL Rail services will run before 05:10 to / from London Paddington.

After 05:30, and amended and reduced train service will run.


TransPennine Express

 
Friday 10 April

A normal service is expected to run.

Saturday 11  and Sunday 12 April

Buses replace trains between Selby and Hull

Sunday 12 April

  • TransPennine Express services will not run between Manchester Victoria and Liverpool Lime Street
  • Buses replace trains between Preston and Carlisle

Saturday 11 to Monday 13 April

  • Buses replace trains between Carlisle, Lockerbie, Motherwell and Glasgow Central / Edinburgh
  • Buses replace trains between Manchester and Preston

 

TransPennine Express are advising customers not to attempt to travel between Manchester and Scotland via Preston over the Easter weekend if at all possible.

Transport for Wales

 

Friday 10 April

Services are scheduled to run as normal.

Saturday 11 to Monday 13 April

Buses will replace trains between Chester and Liverpool South Parkway. Customers should use Merseyrail trains between Liverpool South Parkway and Liverpool Lime Street.

Buses will replace trains between Birmingham International and Shrewsbury.

Sunday 12 April

Buses will replace trains until 13:30 between Cardiff Central and Ebbw Vale Town.

West Midlands Railway

 

Friday 10 April

Services are scheduled to run as normal.

Saturday 11th April and Monday 13th April

Local stopping trains between Birmingham New Street and Wolverhampton will run between Birmingham New Street and Tipton only. Rail replacement buses will operate between Birmingham New Street / Tipton & Wolverhampton.

Train services between Shrewsbury and Birmingham New Street will run between Shrewsbury and Bilbrook only (to a special timetable at a reduced level of frequency). Rail replacement buses will operate between Telford Central and Wolverhampton / Tipton. Passengers are advised to travel on other services between Wolverhampton / Tipton and Birmingham New Street.

To accommodate other operators services which are being diverted along this route, trains between Lichfield Trent Valley and Redditch / Bromsgrove (via Birmingham New Street) will operate to a special timetable at a reduced level of frequency.

Train services between Birmingham New Street and Walsall / Rugeley Trent Valley will operate to a special timetable at a reduced level of frequency (to accommodate other operators services which are being diverted along this route).

Sunday 12th April

Local stopping trains between Birmingham New Street and Wolverhampton will run between Birmingham New Street and Tipton only. Rail replacement buses will operate between Birmingham New Street / Tipton & Wolverhampton.
