Easter Travel Summary 2023

Welcome to the National Rail Enquiries travel advice summary for the Easter holiday period, Good Friday 7 April to Easter Monday 10 April 2023.

This page still contains the information for the 2022 Easter weekend. Please check back nearer to the time for the 2023 information.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Major engineering work will be taking place during the holiday period, affecting certain routes. Network Rail carry out essential improvement and engineering work across the rail network during this time as fewer than half the number of people usually travel by train.

Some train companies will also be making changes to their timetable, and to some train times, to match services to the number of customers travelling.

The continuing impact of the Coronavirus pandemic is an extra factor this year, here's a link to our latest Coronavirus Travel Advice.

Major improvement work on your railway this Bank Holiday

A number of major engineering and improvement projects will be undertaken at Easter including:

London Euston: The West Coast Main Line between London Euston and Milton Keynes Central will be closed throughout the Easter weekend. Customers planning journeys between London Euston and Scotland are advised to travel either side of the long weekend. This will affect Liverpool and Manchester City football supporters travelling to Wembley on Saturday 16 April for the FA Cup semi-final, and Manchester City fans going to the Vitality Women's FA Cup semi-final - travel advice from The FA can be found here.

London Victoria: No Southern services will be able to run to and from London Victoria, with most trains diverted into London Bridge. This work is part of the ongoing London Victoria track and signalling upgrades.

Stansted Airport: There will be no direct trains between London and Stansted Airport at Easter, buses will replace Stansted Express trains between Waltham Cross and the Airport.

For details of all forthcoming engineering works, and their possible impact on your journey, please continue to check here.
