Changes to train times

 

Spring Bank Holiday Travel Summary 2019

Fewer people travel by rail over the Spring bank holiday (Saturday 25 May to Monday 27 May 2019) which is why rail companies decide to carry out essential improvement and engineering work across the rail network during this time.

During the Spring bank holiday, some train companies may also be making changes to their usual timetable and some train times to match services to the number of customers travelling.

Below is a summary of the service that each train company will be running. Please choose the company you will be travelling with from the list:

c2c

 

Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 May

c2c services will not run to / from London Liverpool Street. Trains will be diverted to start / terminate at London Fenchurch Street, calling additionally at West Ham. Customers may use their tickets on London Underground Jubilee Line and on Docklands Light Railway between West Ham and Stratford.

Trains between London Fenchurch Street and Grays via Rainham will not run. Replacement buses will operate between Barking and Grays via Rainham.

Monday 27 May

Revised Sunday service.

Trains between London Fenchurch Street and Grays via Rainham will not run. Replacement buses will operate between Barking and Grays via Rainham.

Caledonian Sleeper

 

On Friday 24 May, the 23:50 London Euston to Glasgow Central / Edinburgh will be diverted via Dumfries / Carstairs and will not call at Carstairs or Motherwell.

CrossCountry

 

Saturday 25 May

CrossCountry services to / from Glasgow Central will be diverted and not call at Motherwell. Alternative services will operate between Glasgow Central and Motherwell.

Sunday 26 May

CrossCountry services to / from Glasgow Central will be diverted and not call at Motherwell. Alternative services will operate between Glasgow Central and Motherwell.

Until 15:35, train services will not call at Bristol Parkway and will be diverted via Gloucester, calling additionally at Patchway, Newport and Gloucester. This will extend journey times by approximately 1 hour. Replacement road transport will operate between Patchway and Bristol Parkway.

Monday 27 May

No engineering work is planned to affect services.

 

Chiltern Railways

 

Saturday 25 May:

There is a sporting event at Wembley Stadium - League 2 Play Off Final.

An amended timetable will operate for most of the day. In order to free-up resource for additional demand to and from Wembley Stadium, please note that a reduced service will operate on the Marylebone - Amersham - Aylesbury route during the afternoon and evening. Additionally, during this period, buses will replace trains between Aylesbury and Aylesbury Vale Parkway.

Sunday 26 May:

Additionally, there is a sporting event at Wembley Stadium - Championship Play Off Final.

East Midlands Trains

 

Saturday 25, Sunday 26 and Monday 27 May:

A reduced service will run to / from London St Pancras International, with trains running on an amended timetable. On Saturday and Sunday, replacement buses will run between Kettering and Corby. On Monday, replacement buses will run between Wellingborough and Market Harborough. More information can be found here

Gatwick Express

 

Sunday 26 May

Trains may be subject to extended journey times because of engineering work between Earlswood and Gatwick Airport.

Grand Central

 

There is no engineering work planned on the Grand Central network.

Great Northern

 

Sunday 26 May

Buses will replace trains between Alexandra Palace and Stevenage via Hertford North.

Monday 27 May

A reduced service will operate across the Great Northern network.

Great Western Railway

 

Early morning / late evening from 23:10 Saturday 25 until 08:00 Sunday 26 May:

Trains will not call at Burnham and Taplow. Buses will run between Slough, Burnham and Taplow.

Sunday 26 May:

Trains between London Paddington and Oxford / Worcester / Great Malvern / Hereford will be diverted between Reading and Oxford, not calling at Didcot Parkway. Some trains will also be revised to leave London Paddington earlier than normal.

Customers to / from Didcot Parkway are advised to use alternative high speed or local services.

Until approximately 21:04, trains between London Paddington and Didcot Parkway will be revised to terminate / start at Reading.

Trains between Didcot Parkway and Oxford will be extended to run between Reading and Oxford, calling additionally at Tilehurst, Pangbourne, Goring & Streatley and Cholsey.

Until 15:35 on Sunday 26 May:

No trains will call at Bristol Parkway until 15:35, an amended service will operate. Further details of which services are affected can be seen here

Greater Anglia

 

Saturday 25 May

Buses replace trains all day between:

  • Ipswich and Norwich
  • Ipswich and Bury St Edmunds
  • Ipswich and Felixstowe

Buses will replace trains between Wickford and Southend Victoria because of major overhead line renewal work (continues until Sunday 2 June).

Sunday 26 May

Buses replace trains all day between:

  • Ipswich and Norwich
  • Ipswich and Bury St Edmunds
  • Ipswich and Felixstowe

Buses will replace trains between Wickford and Southend Victoria because of major overhead line renewal work (continues until Sunday 2 June).

Lea Valley / Tottenham Hale trains will be diverted to run via Seven Sisters. Stations on the Seven Sisters line are within walking distance of stations on the Tottenham Hale line. Lea Bridge station customers should use TfL Buses between Lea Bridge and Stratford / Hackney Downs.

Monday 27 May

Buses replace trains all day between:

  • Ipswich and Norwich
  • Ipswich and Bury St Edmunds
  • Ipswich and Felixstowe

There are also long term engineering works which will be continuing over the May Bank Holiday:

Heathrow Express

 

There is no engineering work planned on the Heathrow Express network.

Hull Trains

 

There is no engineering work planned on the Hull Trains network.

Island Line

 

There is no engineering work planned on the Island Line network.

London North Eastern Railway

 

Saturday 25 May

Services to / from Glasgow Central will not run between Glasgow Central and Edinburgh. Customers should use ScotRail services between Glasgow Central and Motherwell and replacement buses will run between Motherwell and Edinburgh.

Sunday 26 May

Services to / from Glasgow Central will not run between Glasgow Central and Edinburgh. Customers should use ScotRail services between Glasgow Central and Motherwell and replacement buses will run between Motherwell and Edinburgh.

Monday 27 May

The 08:30 and 12:30 services from London Kings Cross to Newcastle will be extended to Edinburgh. The 12:25 and 16:25 services from Newcastle to London Kings Cross will start from Edinburgh at 11:00 and 15:01 respectively.

London Northwestern Railway

 

Saturday 25 May:

From 12:15, trains to / from Liverpool Lime Street will terminate / start from Crewe. 

Replacement road transport will operate between Crewe and Liverpool South Parkway. Customers are then advised to use Merseyrail services to / from Liverpool Central.

A reduced service will operate between Northampton and London Euston all day. 

Sunday 26 May:

Trains to / from Liverpool Lime Street will be revised to start / terminate at Crewe all day. Replacement road transport will operate between Crewe and Liverpool South Parkway. Customers are then advised to use Merseyrail services to / from Liverpool Central.

Until 09:00, buses will replace trains between London Euston and Milton Keynes Central.

After 12:00, trains to / from London Euston will operate at a reduced frequency, with some trains between London Euston and Rugby being amended to depart earlier / arrive earlier at London Euston.

Monday 27 May:

Until 11:55, trains to / from Liverpool Lime Street will be revised to start / terminate at Crewe.

Replacement road transport will operate between Crewe and Liverpool South Parkway. Customers are then advised to use Merseyrail services to / from Liverpool Central.

A reduced service will operate between Northampton and London Euston all day.

London Overground

 

Saturday 25, Sunday 26 and Monday 27 May

No service between Hackney Downs and Chingford. Replacement buses operate between Hackney Downs and Chingford, use London Underground connections between Liverpool Street and Walthamstow Central.

Sunday 26 May:

No London Overground service between Clapham Junction and Willesden Junction. Customers should use local buses via any reasonable route.

Merseyrail

 

Station improvement work is taking place at Overpool closing one of the platforms.

Trains from Liverpool Central to Ellesmere Port will be unable to call at Overpool, to complete your journey you should travel through to Ellesmere Port and travel back to Overpool. 

If you are travelling from Overpool to Ellesmere Port, you should travel on train towards Liverpool and change at Little Sutton for a train to Ellesmere Port.

Northern

 

From 16:55 on Saturday 25 and all day Sunday 26 May:

Buses will replace trains between Cleethorpes and Barton-on-Humber.

Sunday 26 May:

Trains between Whitehaven / Barrow-in-Furness and Carlisle will be revised to start / terminate at Maryport.

Replacement buses will operate between Workington and Carlisle.

ScotRail

 

Saturday 25 May

Trains between Glasgow Central and Lanark will be diverted via Holytown and will terminate at Wishaw. Buses will replace trains between Bellshill and Lanark, calling at Motherwell, Shieldmuir, Wishaw, Carluke and Lanark.

Trains will not run between Glasgow Central and Motherwell. Customers are advised to take Glasgow Central to Wishaw services and change at Bellshill for a bus connection to / from Motherwell.

Trains to / from Motherwell from Balloch / Dalmuir via Whifflet will be revised to start / terminate at Whifflet. Buses will replace trains between Whifflet and Motherwell.

Buses will replace trains between Glasgow Central and Edinburgh, calling at all stations.

From 22:00, buses will replace trains between Dumfries and Carlisle

Sunday 26 May

No major engineering work is planned.

Monday 27 May

A Saturday timetable will operate, with a small number of amendments.

Southeastern

 

Saturday 25, Sunday 26 and Monday 27 May:

  • Trains via Woolwich

Trains between Lewisham / Deptford and Plumstead will not run.

Buses will replace trains between Lewisham and Plumstead via New Cross and Greenwich.

  • Trains via Bexleyheath

London Cannon Street to London Cannon Street 'rounder' services via Bexleyheath will not run.

On Saturday and Monday additional services will run between London Cannon Street and Dartford via Bexleyheath.

On Sunday only, London Charing Cross to Dartford (via Woolwich) will be diverted to run via Bexleyheath.

  • Trains via Sidcup:

On Sunday only, London Cannon Street to London Cannon Street 'rounder' services via Sidcup and Grenwich will run normally via Sidcup, then divert to Dartford.

London Charing Cross to Gravesend services via Sidcup will call additionally at Lewisham on Sunday.

  • Trains via Hayes:

London Charing Cross to Hayes services will call additionally at Lewisham on Saturday and Monday only.

Customers may use their tickets on Docklands Light Railway services between Lewisham and Greenwich.

 

Sunday 26 and Monday 27 May:

Buses will replace trains between Faversham and Dover Priory via Canterbury East.

 

Sunday 26 May:

Trains between London Victoria and Orpington will be diverted to run via Denmark Hill and Catford, running non-stop from Denmark Hill to Shortlands.

Trains via Maidstone East will be diverted via an alternative route between London Victoria and Bromley South.

Replacement bus services will run between Denmark Hill and Bromley South, calling at all stations between Herne Hill and Shortlands.

Brixton station will be closed all day. Customers may use their tickets on London Underground Victoria Line services between Brixton and London Victoria.

Southern

 

Saturday 25 May:

Services between East Croydon and Milton Keynes Central will start / terminate at Shepherds Bush.

Sunday 26 May:

Services between East Croydon and Milton Keynes Central will not run.

Trains may be subject to extended journey times between Earlswood and Gatwick Airport.

Buses replace trains between Eastbourne and Hampden Park / Ore / Polegate.

Monday 27 May:

Services between East Croydon and Milton Keynes Central will start / terminate at Shepherds Bush.

A reduced service will operate on the Southern network.

Stansted Express

 

Saturday 25 May

Saturday service.

Sunday 26 May

Until 08:20, London Liverpool Street to Stansted Airport services will call at Seven Sisters in place of Tottenham Hale.

Monday 27 May

Monday service.

Thameslink

 

Saturday 25, Sunday 26 and Monday 27 May:

An amended Thameslink service will be in operation due to engineering work at London St Pancras International. More details can be found here

Sunday 26 May:

Trains will not stop at Earlswood or Salfords. Customers should replacement bus service between Redhill and Horley.

Monday 27 May:

Thameslink are operating a reduced service across their network.

TfL Rail

 

Sunday 26 May:

TfL Rail trains will not call at Maryland, Forest Gate and Manor Park.

Customers are advised to use alternative routes.

TransPennine Express

 

Saturday 25 May

A reduced service will run between Carlisle / Lockerbie and Glasgow Central / Edinburgh, with some trains being replaced by buses between Carlisle / Lockerbie and Glasgow Central / Edinburgh.

No planned alterations on other routes.

Sunday 26 May

Buses will replace trains between:

  • Oxenholme and Carlisle.
  • Carlisle and Edinburgh.

Customers travelling to / from Glasgow can use Virgin Trains buses.

No planned alterations on other routes.

Monday 27 May

No planned alterations.


Transport for Wales

 

Sunday 26 May:

Buses will replace trains between Newport and Shrewsbury all day. 

Engineering work is taking place between Chester and Manchester Piccadilly, closing some lines. As a result of this, trains will be diverted via Northwich with replacement road transport operating between Chester and Manchester Piccadilly.

 

Virgin Trains

 
Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 May:

Engineering work is taking place between Glasgow Central and Motherwell, closing some lines. 

On Saturday, trains to / from Glasgow Central will be diverted via Manchester Piccadilly and Bolton, then terminate at Carlisle.

Replacement road transport will operate between Carlisle and Glasgow Central.

On Sunday, trains between Glasgow Central and Lanark will be diverted via Holytown and will terminate at Wishaw. Buses will replace trains between Bellshill and Lanark, calling at Motherwell, Shieldmuir, Wishaw, Carluke and Lanark.

Trains will not run between Glasgow Central and Motherwell. Customers are advised to take Glasgow Central to Wishaw services and change at Bellshill for a bus connection to / from Motherwell.

From 12:15, trains to / from Liverpool Lime Street will be cancelled. Trains to / from Glasgow Central via Lichfield Trent Valley will be diverted via Manchester Piccadilly and Bolton and will terminate at Carlisle.

Replacement road transport will operate between Crewe and Liverpool Lime Street, calling at Runcorn.

Sunday:

Trains to / from Liverpool Lime Street will be diverted via Manchester Piccadilly and Rainhill.

Trains to / from Glasgow Central via Lichfield Trent Valley will be diverted via Manchester Piccadilly and Bolton, then terminate at Lancaster.

Replacement road transport will operate between Crewe and Preston via Warrington Bank Quay and Wigan North Western.

Monday:

Until 11:55, no trains will run to / from Liverpool Lime Street. Trains to / from Glasgow Central will also be diverted via Manchester Piccadilly and Bolton.

Replacement road transport will operate between Crewe and Liverpool Lime Street, calling at Runcorn.

 

Major improvement work is taking place at London Euston from Saturday until Monday, closing some lines.

Saturday & Monday:

Trains between London Euston and Birmingham / Wolverhampton / Manchester will be reduced to 2 trains per hour.

Trains between London Euston and Holyhead will be revised to start / terminate at Crewe.

Sunday:

No trains will operate to / from London Euston before 09:00.

Trains between London Euston and Birmingham / Wolverhampton / Manchester will be reduced to 2 trains per hour.

Trains between London Euston and Holyhead will be revised to start / terminate at Crewe.

 

 

West Midlands Railway

 

There is no engineering work planned on the West Midlands Railway network.
