Track & Equipment upgrade work is taking place at Acton Grange Junction, which will close the line between Warrington and Runcorn East / Acton Bridge.

£27m is being invested, as part of the Great North Rail Project, to bring the outdated track and equipment to modern standards and further improve the reliability of the economically important West Coast main line.

How does this affect the train service?

Trains on the West Coast Mainline will not run via Warrington Bank Quay, with some Virgin Trains services diverted between Wigan and Crewe via Manchester Piccadilly. Replacement buses will run via Warrington Bank Quay.

Trains will not run between Warrington Bank Quay and Chester / Ellesmere Port with replacement buses on this route. Trains are running between Chester and Manchester Piccadilly via Altrincham.
