Late May Bank Holiday Travel Summary 2021

Welcome to the National Rail Enquiries travel advice summary for the Late May (Spring) Bank Holiday weekend, from Saturday 29 to Monday 31 May.

Travel with confidence - rail companies are working closely with the Government to keep vital services moving and making sure you can travel safely. If you are travelling please follow the latest government guidance and the measures set out when travelling by train.

Major engineering work will be taking place during the holiday period, affecting certain routes. Network Rail carry out essential improvement and engineering work across the rail network during this time as far fewer people usually travel by train.

Some train companies will also be making changes to their timetable, and to some train times, to match services to the number of customers travelling.

The continuing impact of the Coronavirus pandemic may affect your journey plans for May, here's a link to our latest Coronavirus Travel Advice.

Major improvement work on your railway

As well as the ongoing major work at London Kings Cross, a number of major engineering and improvement projects will be undertaken during the Late May weekend:

London St Pancras International: Trains on the line through Bedford, Luton and St Albans will not be able to run to or from London St Pancras International. This line closure will allow one of the platforms at the new Brent Cross West station to be built.

London Victoria: No Southern trains will be able to call at London Victoria. This is so work can take place to increase capacity on the line to East Croydon, allowing more trains to run in the future.

There will also be improvement projects at numerous other locations. You can find details of all the engineering work that is taking place here.

Engineering work and timetables

Normally, the timetable for any particular day is confirmed 12 weeks in advance. For a temporary period Network Rail isn’t able to do this, instead confirming engineering work and timetables much closer to the date of travel. This means that for some routes online journey planners, including National Rail Enquiries, may not be completely accurate until a few days before you travel.

Where we are aware that the timetable is not yet correct, the National Rail Enquiries journey planner will show a yellow warning triangle against the trains concerned - please check back nearer to your travel date.

For details of engineering works, and their possible impact on your journey, please continue to check here.
